Maarten works as a warehouse manager in Venlo

Maarten's story

Last year I started work as warehouse manager at our new location in Venlo, where I was involved in the startup of our new client. Now I manage a team of around 50 people of different nationalities.

Sometimes when I'm in the car on the way home I reflect on my day. What did I do? What happened today? My working day typically involves co-ordinating my team's everyday activities, introducing structure, taking responsibility for safety rules, and maintaining an insight into figures and results. In the beginning my job was very operational and I was there in the warehouse to provide guidance. Now I'm much more in the background and I focus on structure of the organisation, productivity figures and target-setting.

There's a friendly atmosphere at Arvato. There's room for personal growth and development, milestones are celebrated, and you can learn from mistakes. One thing I've learned here is to keep calm and listen. Don't immediately rush to judgement when someone makes a mistake; instead ask yourself why the mistake was made.

I place great importance on the people in my team. Ultimately they're the ones who put in the hard work, work night shifts or are here at the weekend instead of with their families. An order-picker is no less important than a manager.

You are the expert

Working at Arvato means you are our expert. Our eyes and ears. And we’d love to hear your ideas for improvement. Your feedback might result in a new working method or an adaptation of our training. Optimization of processes or procedures on a daily basis is our goal.

Good atmosphere and diversity

Some of us just finished school, some of us took up work again after having children. We might seem different and we might vary in age. But we are all colleagues and we enjoy working together. We learn from each other and love working in an open and informal atmosphere where everyone’s opinion matters.

We offer career opportunities

The growth and the development of our company offers opportunities to those who aspire after making a career for themselves within our company and within the branch.
