Penguin Random House runs around 50 websites for various purposes (such as brand communication through Penguin.co.uk, Marketing and Author speciality sites such as The Happy Foodie, an internal intranet etc) delivered across a number of platforms. We have decided to amalgamate the user journey and site usage analytics into one platform, Adobe Analytics, where we will create a rich data layer of information generated from tags across all of our sites. We also use New Relic to monitor our platforms and site responsiveness.

 

As a tag management specialist, an experienced operator of web analytic tools and with knowledge of web usage KPIs, you’ll help the organisation understand, measure and drive the value generation of our web platforms and marketing campaigns. The data generated will help you setup and run A/B testing experiments, advising our Product teams on consumer preferred developments.

 

This role will work alongside the front and back end developers in the Online Team within Technology. Key partnerships are with the Digital Product and Marketing Effectiveness teams in our Audience, Brand and Communication marketing function and the marketing functions in our publishing houses.

Core responsibilities:
As our Tagging expert

  • Create a tagging strategy to suit the aims of the Online Developers, the Product Team, the marketing functions and other key stakeholders. Tags could support user journey monitoring and analytics, A/B testing, our CRO strategy and possibly triggered events.

  • Gain sign off of the strategy through appropriate channels

  • Lead the implementation of the strategy in Adobe launch to feed into our Adobe Analytics tool, providing a full and robust analytics data layer

  • Ensure our data layer could also feed into our Enterprise Data Platform for advanced analytics and personalisation analytics

  • Review the strategy at appropriate times to meet new opportunities and requirements

 

As an experienced Web Analytics Tech Lead

  • Coordinate technical aspects of Adobe Analytics for all business partners

  • Work with the Marketing teams to understand what information they need to see and help them understand the opportunities presented by web analytics

  • Determine the optimal way to use the features (variables, report suites, etc) to answer business questions

  • Maintains library of implementation documentation (BDR & SDR)

  • Assigns and manages business partner, agency permissions and set-ups new accounts


Use SQL or similar languages to configure ad hoc dashboard insight where needed, possibly from other tools such as PowerBI

  • Use our analytical tools, play an active role in the enhancement process and advise where we need further tooling

  • Work closely with the Commercial analytics owner to execute the analytics strategy


As a member of the Online Team

  • Work as part of our agile/DevOps culture, taking an active role in the scrum team and agile ceremonies

  • Work across internal and external development teams and multiple stakeholder groups to build and implement your strategy

  • Work as a single virtual team with the Product Team to deliver business epics and user stories

  • Guide and train technical and non-technical users in optimal tagging solutions and web data usage to drive performance

  • Help configure our New Relic tool as part of the suite of dashboards that give insight to our site reliability and responsiveness

  • Ensure your work is documented and supportable

Experience & Skills we’re looking for:

  • Significant experience (5 + years) in building analytics tagging and dashboarding strategy and solutions

  • Experience driving web performance based on observed data and actions

  • Experience setting up, running, evaluating and providing data informed recommendations from A/B and multivariate testing

  • Experience working in a similar environment/sector (Media) would be helpful

  • Confident, experienced user of Adobe Analytics and Adobe Launch

  • Excellent working knowledge of Java Script, browser technology and cookie behaviour

  • Familiar with rules, guidelines and constraints of GDPR

  • Experience of Google Analytics and PowerBI also useful

  • SQL and another coding language (python, Java) knowledge a nice to have

  • Knowledge and experience of tools such as New Relic or Splunk to monitor platform performance

  • Able to understand data architecture concepts when looking to provide data to the Enterprise Data Platform

  • Good communicator, able to influence peers, team, and business stakeholders

Salary: up to £60k dependent on how your skills and experience align to the role, plus bonus and benefits.
