Penguin Random House UK is looking to improve the way we process, quality control and make available retailer and total consumer market data for BI reporting and data analysis.


The Operational Data BI Analyst will be responsible for data analysis, and mapping and identifying requirements for data availability and data quality. You’ll work within a virtual project team, with members from different organisational areas such as Data Processors, Reporting Analysts and Technical resources. Reporting into the BI Support Manager, you’ll be based in London, with travel to our Frating office.


There are 4 main things this role is responsible for:



•             Analysing source data, including historical data to be migrated

•             Support technical requirements, such as such as ETL processes, data model designs and validation checks

•             Mapping specifications for use by ETL developers

•             Providing other ad-hoc technical support within the BI workstream


Stakeholder engagement

•             Asking the business what data they want, analysing it and advising on its usage

•             Preparing realistic delivery plans and reports to stakeholders


Supplier engagement

•             Using influencing skills to optimise data feeds, data quality and SLAs from 3rd party providers


Continuous improvement

•             Identifying opportunities to automate processes

•             Testing and implementing to-be processes and contributing to ongoing quality control


We’re looking for:

•             Extensive experience working in Technology and Data Management in a similar business environment or sector

•             Data Analysis/Business Intelligence experience

•             Experience migrating data within a BI data warehouse and familiarity with standard migration concepts and processes

•             Experience migrating data on a range of projects in terms of size and content

•             An understanding of publishing data, data structures and processes would be ideal

•             Good knowledge of MS Office (including SharePoint) and standard project management tools

•             Strong communication and relationship building skills, whether that’s reporting on deliverables, advising senior stakeholders or networking

•             Comprehensive knowledge of relevant development life-cycles and their operational environment
