Marketing Manager, Penguin Michael Joseph

Penguin Michael Joseph is searching for a dynamic and proactive Marketing Manager to join the team. This is a newly created position where you can take full ownership of your campaigns and really make your mark. We are excited to meet with candidates with relevant experience from outside of the publishing industry, as well as those with existing publishing experience.

 

 

About the team

 

Penguin Michael Joseph is a leading commercial fiction and non-fiction imprint of Penguin Random House, publishing best-selling titles across an array of genres such as crime and thriller, romance, cookery, memoir and lifestyle. We are responsible for launching and building the world’s most popular and commercially successful authors and brands, including Jamie Oliver, Dawn French, Nadiya Hussain, Marian Keyes, Jojo Moyes, Stephen Fry and Mrs Hinch.

 

 

The role

 

The role will be responsible for planning and executing best-in-class marketing campaigns for Penguin Michael Joseph, across both fiction and non-fiction books. You’ll have your finger on the pulse when it comes to popular culture and consumer trends and be comfortable executing multi-platform media strategies. You will build strong working relationships with colleagues, authors and agents to provide the highest level of author care, ensuring that the campaigns for our books are market-leading and ultimately drive sales.

 

 

Key responsibilities:

 

  • Develop, coordinate and deliver successful marketing campaigns across a diverse range of titles that drive audience engagement and discovery
  • Be plugged in to consumer trends in publishing with a finger on the pulse of new and emerging platforms and communities
  • Brief designers to produce best-in-class assets and marketing materials that support campaign goals
  • Coordinate with relevant divisional departments including sales, editorial, publicity and international teams
  • Manage budget for own campaigns and continually review in line with expected and actual sales revenues
  • Take a data-driven approach, analysing campaigns and their impact on sales, apply learnings and communicate successes and challenges effectively across the wider business and to stakeholders
  • Help create pitch documents for new authors and contribute to new acquisitions
  • Represent division, marketing and the value of publishers at external meetings

 

What you’ll bring

 

Essential criteria:

 

  • Experience designing and executing innovative and effective marketing campaigns, either in book publishing or an adjacent industry
  • First-class communication skills with ability to establish great working relationships with all stakeholders including colleagues, authors and agents
  • You’re interested in popular culture and consumer trends and can incorporate effectively into your marketing campaigns
  • A proactive and can-do attitude, you’ll enjoy solving problems and always keep an open mind
  • Ability to analyse effectiveness of your campaigns, taking a strategic approach to apply learnings
  • You can work at pace, juggling multiple priorities and deadlines

 

Preferred criteria:

 

  • A passion for non-fiction book publishing including lifestyle, food or drink

Salary

 

Circa £33,000 base salary dependent on how your skills and experience align to the role, plus bonus and benefits.

Hybrid working

 

While our offices across the UK are places to connect, collaborate and celebrate with colleagues, we recognise that flexibility around where you work is just as important. For this role you will need to attend the office three days per week - Monday, Wednesday and Thursday.
