We are recruiting an Editor to join a dynamic, high performing team at an exciting moment of growth and momentum for the UK’s largest dedicated non-fiction publisher.

 

Ebury is the home of non-fiction at Penguin Random House. Our WH Allen, Witness Books and Ebury Press imprints within our Smart non-fiction Hub publish prizewinning bestsellers by some of our leading writers and thinkers, from Maria Ressa and Michael Rosen to Sheryl Sandberg, Caitlin Moran, Janina Ramirez, Dara McAnulty, Adam Grant and James O’Brien.  

 

In this role you will be responsible for editing and project managing books for the Smart Hub.

 

The Role

  • Oversee books through the whole publishing process
  • Liaise with internal and external stakeholders, including authors, agents, copyeditors, proofreaders, designers and media partners
  • Retain the best authors by ensuring an exceptional experience
  • Cultivate and support a strong team with great relationships across internal departments and external networks
  • Scope to commission and begin to contribute your own acquisitions

 

Candidate Profile

  • Proven experience of turning manuscripts into books, including structural and line-editing experience
  • Proofreading and copy-writing skills, with meticulous attention to detail
  • Project management skills; able to keep on top of multiple priorities and work collaboratively across teams to ensure milestones are met
  • Understands audience needs and can identify the distinctive voices and aesthetics that speak to them
  • Demonstrable interest in books that resonate with the smart non-fiction hub’s mission: to create prizewinning bestsellers that speak to the moment and stand the test of time
  • Entrepreneurial, curious, and creative; able to transform ideas into stand out books
  • An effective and thoughtful communicator, able to capture attention and build rapport, trust and buy-in

We’re currently experimenting with hybrid working and involving colleagues across the business to shape our future ways of working. For this role, there are meetings and activities that you will need to attend in person (mainly at our offices in Pimlico). Salary: £29,000 - £38,499 depending on how your skills and experience align with the role, plus bonus and benefits.
