Data Architect

PRH UK

Are you a visionary Data Architect with a passion for transforming raw data into actionable insights?

We are seeking a dynamic and innovative individual to join our Data Engineering team. Reporting to the Head of Data Engineering, you will collaborate closely with our experienced Data Architect and a talented team of Data Engineers. In this pivotal role, you will leverage your expertise in data engineering and architecture to design and implement robust data pipelines, models, security domains, and flows. Your designs will be brought to life by our Data Engineers, with opportunities for you to dive into the engineering work as well.

About Technology

Following the successful completion of our recent technology, data and process merger, our Technology division is charging ahead with our strategic plan to amplify the voices of our organisation. This includes leveraging the potential of Cloud solutions, continuously enhancing our security measures, revitalising legacy applications, and enhancing our interactions with strategic partners and suppliers. Our Technology Division spans across two vibrant office locations in London and Colchester, where approximately 200 colleagues are dedicated to empowering our mission – we make books for everyone, because a book can change anyone.

At the heart of this mission is our pivotal Data team, and with your contribution, we can elevate our agile maturity to unprecedented levels.

Key responsibilities:

  • Design and architect robust, scalable, event-driven data pipelines with full data telemetry using observability and monitoring technologies.

  • Develop a roadmap and plan for migrating legacy data and technologies into the new Enterprise Data Platform.

  • Implement "security by design" and "quality by design" principles to create performant data environments for confident use by analysts and decision-makers.

  • Ensure the data architecture supports our PowerBI reporting and analytics suite.

  • Set the technical direction for data architecture in collaboration with the Head of Data Engineering, data engineering team, and data strategy.

  • Foster a Dev/DataOps culture and working practice within the team.

  • Translate and assign the backlog into features and developments to achieve prioritised business outcomes.

  • Design structures to support first and third-party data use, ensuring compliance with data policies and protecting users' data.

  • Support data governance by aligning data structures to policies, capturing them in the data catalogue, and implementing them through the data architecture.

  • Stay updated with industry trends in data management and continuously seek improvements to the platform design for enhanced service, efficiency, and business outcomes.

What you will bring:

  • Extensive experience architecting cloud-based data engineering, BI, and data science solutions.

  • Proven expertise in designing scalable schemas to ingest various types of data, including transactional, web analytics, CRM/marketing, and both structured and unstructured data.

  • Strong background in coding and tool-based solutions for data ingestion and storage, with the ability to determine the most beneficial approach.

  • Experience migrating legacy data solutions into the cloud, including refactoring, and addressing potential challenges or opportunities.

  • In-depth technical experience with various databases, including AWS functions, Postgres SQL, SQL Server, and Datavault.

  • Experience building data structures to support first and third-party analysis under GDPR guidelines.

  • Demonstrated capability in migrating legacy physical environments to cloud-based platforms.

  • Capable of working with engineering teams to design and build complex data environments.

  • Strong SQL skills and expert knowledge of data modelling, with an understanding of different data structures and their benefits and limitations under specific use cases.

  • Strong knowledge of cloud computing, architecture, and implementation, with an emphasis on AWS, and a solid understanding of the Snowflake platform and ecosystem.
