Brand Designer, Penguin Press

Penguin Press are looking for a new Brand Designer to join their Marketing team. 

 

This role will bring our award-winning marketing campaigns to life and work closely with both the marketing and art teams to support growth across all our channels and touchpoints. You’ll raise the standard of all our visual communications through a design conscious brand presence.

 

If you have excellent graphic design skills, adept with UX and UI and the Adobe Creative Suite, this could be the next role for you.

 

For the right candidate, we are willing to consider a four-day working week.

The role

 

The aim of the Penguin Press Brand Designer is to ensure we deliver design-conscious book marketing and brand communications for our company and our publishing. You’ll work as a conduit between the book design team and the marketing team to ensure a joined-up approach and consistency across all our channels.

Key responsibilities:

  • Generating creative concepts, designs or commissions for book campaigns and marketing projects that straddle both teams, from catalogues to point-of-sale, ensuring our strong cover visuals underpin our campaign approach.

  • Creating and maintaining a robust set of brand marketing guidelines for Penguin Classics across all visual touchpoints, online and offline

  • Receive, interpret, and playback creative briefs and present creative treatments to key divisional stakeholders.

  • Ensure online-first content creation and adaptation, across newsletter, social and website.

  • Picture research and development for our new and backlist Classics authors for use in marketing.

  • Ensure coherent design across digital touchpoints for all Penguin Press, reviewing, advertising, sales material, merchandise, and social content - formatting all our other marketing materials to a really high standard to reflect the values of the publishing house.

  • Inspire the team by being a consultative voice and source of expertise on design briefs and creative direction in order to achieve design excellence across the board.

  • Contribute to product development ideas for international markets– capitalising on opportunities to grow our brands in key markets, e.g. Asia and Europe.

 

What you’ll bring

 

We are looking for someone who has design experience for a creative brand, who has had responsibility for brand communication.  You’ll also show us:

  • *Experience executing design and typography to a high standard.

  • *Experience working in a creative team and working with design agencies and freelancers.

  • *A portfolio that demonstrates creative flair, versatility, technical skills.

  • *Good understanding of UX and UI

  • *Solid understanding of Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign and Photoshop).

  • *Demonstrable experience preparing print-ready assets.

 

Importantly, too, you’ll be excited and inspired by the authors on our Penguin Press list and be engaged with the wider division.

Salary

 

Circa £35,000 dependent on how your skills and experience align to the role, plus bonus and benefits.

Hybrid working 

 

While our offices across the UK are places to connect, collaborate and celebrate with colleagues, we recognise that flexibility around where you work is just as important. For this role, we expect an average of two days a week in our Embassy Gardens office (with flexibility).  For the right candidate, we are happy to consider a four-day working week.
