Night Shift Engineer

We have an exciting opportunity to join our Distribution team as a Night Shift Engineer. Reporting into the Engineering Project Manager, you will be responsible for providing solutions to breakdowns and delivering maintenance across the warehouse.

You will use your experience and knowledge to prevent repeat failures and will continually improve processes to minimise engineering outages.

 

There will be the opportunity to get involved in exciting up and coming projects within the warehouse alongside the project manager.

 

This is a Night Shift Engineering role where your normal hours of work will be 10pm – 6am Sunday to Thursday nights inclusive.

 

Key responsibilities:

 

  • Responsible for all reactive and proactive maintenance work

  • Escalate at the earliest opportunity when specialist support is required

  • Maintain the good running of our warehouse automation infrastructure including PLC management, conveyor systems, carton erectors, carton sealers. There is no requirement for MHE engineering in this role.
  • Working alongside the Warehouse Operations Manager to ensure the reactive maintenance is managed alongside the operational needs

  • Proactively identify areas of risk and working alongside the Engineering Project manager to limit the issues

  • Attend operational meetings where required and share updates and plans

  • Carry out Preventative Maintenance in line with schedules and complete evidence check sheets

  • Maintain high standards of Health & Safety and clean as you go standards

  • Accurately capture breakdowns within the PRH system to ensure that historical data is available and of use

  • Work in unison with the Engineering Project manager to ensure the right resources are available both short and long term

  • Maintaining tools and equipment in a high standard

  • Maintain daily Engineering Log and Health & Safety documentation

  • Identify spare part shortages and/or repair requirements

What you’ll bring:

 

  • Multiskilled with formal engineering qualification to NVQ level 3 or higher in an electrical or mechanical subject

  • A proven track record in an Engineering ideally within a distribution or manufacturing background

  • Demonstrated ability to work under own initiative, be proactive and a commitment to continuous improvement

  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written and computer literate

  • Ability to understand electrical / mechanical drawings. Understanding of control systems advantageous

  • Excellent decision making skills

The team:

 

Our Frating distribution teams pick, pack and despatch more than 120 million books each year, covering over 85,000 titles. That’s a lot of books going to over 160 countries, requiring a crucial distribution team, including Engineering, to facilitate the scale of our operation.

 

You will be joining a team of three shift engineers reporting into the Engineering Project Manager, the team work closely with the warehouse teams and both teams work collaboratively and have a team focus.

Salary: circa £40,000 (plus a 30% night shift premium) depending on how your skills and experience align to the role
