Manager, Mechanical Licensing (Publishing)

 

Your primary mission is issuance of U.S. and Canadian licenses for physical and digital releases containing compositions in BMG’s publishing catalog.

 

What You’ll Be Doing.

  • Serve as a BMG representative to external labels to confirm publishing splits/label copy with labels prior to release of product containing BMG compositions
  • Liaise with Creative Admin and Information Services to confirm splits for compositions
  • Review artist agreements supplied by labels to calculate rates payable in accordance with controlled composition clauses
  • Draft mechanical licenses and confer with labels to see through to ensure final execution
  • Partner with Income Tracking Department to proactively pursue releases and confirm licensing statuses
  • Coordinate with Legal and Copyright departments with respect to disputes/legal holds
  • Additional general licensing work for uses of compositions in samples, adaptations, translations, etc.

 

Must-Haves.

  • You have a comprehensive understanding of music publishing rights and best practices
  • You have mechanical licensing experience at a music publisher or record label
  • You have a strong understanding of mechanical licensing and current industry practices.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel
  • You are comfortable working in a team and are a self-starter. 
  • You have strong time management skills and can juggle multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.

 

It’s a plus if you have a bachelor’s Degree, preferable in Music Business or related field, but this is not essential.
