Manager – Financial Planning & Analysis (Publishing)

Join BMG’s Finance team as Manager – Financial Planning & Analysis where you will be responsible for the delivery of financials and the forward planning and analysis of the UK owned Music Publishing rights, integrating sound financial insights and foresights into value based decision making, owning the planning and forecasting cycle and promoting data-driven decision making. 

In this role you will collaborate closely with cross functional teams, providing valuable insights and supporting decision-making processes to ensure the financial success of our projects.

Your responsibilities will also include ensuring credibility of financial analysis through oversight of financial information from end to end of the UK publishing value chain and by being integrated with Publishing, Sub-Publishing and Production Music teams plans and information needs.

 

Key Responsibilities.

INTEGRATED PLANNING & ANALYSIS

  • Business partner and build rapport with Music Publishing Senior Management Team, A&R and Creative Teams, Sub-Publishing team, Production Music and sync team, providing relevant and impactful data driven management information and insight.
  • Influence and inform profitable decision making.
  • Work with Investments Team in preparing and reviewing Investment Appraisals to enable FP&A sign off.
  • Be responsible for interrogation and analysis of periodic royalty payment run/earnings reports, collaborating directly with royalties teams to ensure effective and insightful client reviews when presented to UK management.
  • Identify and interpret industry trends and market developments, understand root causes and communicate deeper insights to business decision makers

OPERATIONAL FP&A

  • Ensuring the timely reporting of all monthly, quarterly and year-end financial information and deadlines. Including identifying trends, variances to budget and risks to achieving annual results. 
  • Prepare annual budget, monthly rolling forecasts and long range projections in line with up to date actuals, operational and strategic plans and industry trends.
  • Responsible for presenting Publishing results, forecasts and budgets to UK CFO and Group Finance Team.
  • Involvement in quarterly royalty true up and advance provisioning, working to find efficiencies through automation
  • Budgeting & /forecasting of cash flows, advances received, future committed requirements, recoupments, deal pipeline, contracting, options, cash requirement
  • Support wider Group data and automation projects such as the Royalties Integration Project and the implementation of the Controlling Concept

PROMOTING DATA DRIVEN DECISION MAKING

  • Pro-actively ensuring that regular deal monitoring is performed using up to date internal and external information and insights from available tools (i.e. Looker).
  • Ensure correct data architecture in place for best in class and relevant management reporting. 
  • Ensure relevant management reporting and KPIs are available and easily disseminated across the business through suitable tools.
  • Streamline, enrich and optimise financial data in close cooperation with Group FP&A and Local Royalty teams to provide automated analysis and insights throughout the business (i.e. dashboards, reports)

COMPLIANCE

  • Collaborate closely with other Group Controlling Functions, particularly in the fields of reporting and technical developments

TEAM WORK

  • Work alongside wider UK FP&A team, Global Publishing Team, Royalties and International Teams to share knowledge and foster best practice eg Looker Dashboards

 

Your Profile.

  • You are a qualified accountant with post-qualification experience, ideally possessing a background in financial roles within the music industry.
  • You have experience of planning & reporting across P&L, balance sheet & cashflow
  • You have gained a strong understanding of data analysis and story telling 
  • You are proactive and challenge the status quo
  • You hold excellent communication (verbal and written) skills with finance and non finance teams and senior stakeholders Clear business focus and understanding
  • You are service orientated and take pride in customer/in house clients service
  • You are approachable and able to build rapport with wider business
  • Comfortable working in a fast paced changing environment
  • Critical thinker and driven to get under the root cause of the problem and issues
  • Diligent, conscientious, proactive and flexible

 

You have experience working with:

  • SAP/BW
  • Advanced Excel
  • Anaplan
  • Looker

 

It’s a plus (not a must!) if you have: experience working with royalties as well as royalty systems
