About the role

As a Legal Counsel, you play a key role in supporting Riverty’s business and the entire company in various legal affairs. The entire Riverty legal community consists of about 25+ lawyers with whom you will have regular interactions. The work will also entail close contact with other functions such as Product, Sales, Compliance, Finance, Account & Client Management and Operations. Riverty 's organizational culture is international and low-hierarchical, prioritizing cooperation and open team interaction, fostering a dynamic and collaborative work environment.

In this role, you will join our team of lawyers from Finland, Sweden, Denmark, and the Netherlands and report to our General Counsel for RBIF Nordics & Benelux (business unit Collection). Your role in our debt collection and debt purchase business is central. Your primary responsibility will be to support our business in Finland, a role that is crucial to our operations in this region.


What will be your challenge:

In this role, you will be involved in client and supplier matters and drafting, reviewing, and negotiating commercial agreements, set-ups, and other legal documents. You will be actively in contact with district courts, draft statements and, if necessary, represent companies in different courts. Through the evaluation of settlement options and arranging settlement negotiations, you will be able to develop in dispute resolution and work comprehensively on key legal issues in the company’s industry. You will also be able to take responsibility for the company’s internal legal training and actively participate in developing the legal function. The role includes intermittent travel in the Nordics and occasionally to other countries.


Your tasks will include the following:

  • Provide legal support and advice on a wide variety of topics, particularly in debt collection, consumer law, business law and contract law
  • Litigate disputes before the courts
  • Play a pivotal role in drafting, reviewing, and negotiating client contracts, supplier agreements, and other pertinent internal and external contracts and legal documents
  • Support a wide range of internal stakeholders and act as a sparring partner to the international Legal team
  • Represent the organization in matters involving supervisory authorities
  • Monitor upcoming legislation and advise the organization on the potential impact on business

 

What will help you to succeed in the role:

  • A master's degree in law and 2-5 years of hands-on experience
  • Experience in debt collection, debt purchase, consumer protection law, and contract law
  • Trial Counsel License (Oikeudenkäyntiavustajalupa)
  • Well-developed legal, drafting and advisory skills
  • Analytical, determined, result-oriented, and self-motivated personality
  • Ability to work independently, able to handle a fast-paced and dynamic environment
  • Good communication skills, able to explain complex topics simply, a commitment to work and commercial thinking
  • Fluency in English and Finnish
