VP, Systems, Support, & Training (Open to Remote)
The Publishing Operations Group at Penguin Random House seeks a VP, Systems, Support, and Training (SST) to join the Team. In this role, you will manage a team to develop and support Penguin Random House’s internal systems and processes. The team’s goal is to address the diverse business needs of Penguin Random House’s divisions and imprints, providing solutions that allow us to meet the challenges and opportunities that we face in an ever-evolving market.
Collaboration is at the core of the team’s work. You will work across departments to enhance systems and applications, improve workflows, advise on business processes and best practices, and support and train users. You will interact with stakeholders across publishing divisions and corporate areas, such as Managing Editorial, Production, Sales, Marketing, Publicity, Customer Operations, the Warehouse team and Finance, and collaborate with colleagues on all levels of the organization, including senior technical and non-technical stakeholders and the C-Suite.
Key Responsibilities
- Be the key point of contact of Publishing Operations SST for the rest of PRH’s organization
- Work with stakeholders to identify opportunities to streamline operations, modernize applications and implement workflow automation, utilizing tools like BI Analytics, ML and AI.
- Determine direction for systems solutions to meet newly identified business needs
- Vet incoming projects for value and level of effort, understanding the MVP solution and working to make the case for project prioritization
- Initiate and manage projects as needed
- Identify appropriate staffing requirements and help your lead team develop job descriptions and hire for those roles as needed
- Build and maintain relationships with other parts of the organization. Ensure SST is represented in cross-divisional conversations and relevant projects
- Directly manage and mentor a team of five full-time employees, while overseeing the overall performance and development of a larger team of 25
This position is open to remote work, with a strong preference for candidates residing within commuting distance of our Manhattan office for occasional in-person meetings and team-building activities.
Requirements
- 15+ years in systems development and support roles
- Experienced team leader, ability to mentor and develop employees
- Management of senior individuals
- Management of a team with indirect reports
- Demonstrated business analysis and project management capabilities
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively across all levels of the organization
- Ability to assess “wants” vs. “needs” and translate what is at the heart of user requirements
- Proven ability to convert business challenges into system solutions
- Familiarity with key project management concepts, including Waterfall and Agile methodologies, MVP
- ERP system experience required; SAP MM/PP experience is a plus
- Book Publishing experience is a plus
- Experience with integrating acquired companies is a plus
The salary range for this position is $175,000 - 205,000. All positions are currently eligible for annual profit award or bonus, subject to Company results.
