Senior Publicist, Ballantine, Bantam, Dell, Delacorte (Hybrid)
The Random House Publishing Group is seeking an experienced, creative, and enthusiastic Senior Publicist to join the Ballantine, Bantam, Dell/Delacorte (BBD) imprints, to plan and execute dynamic, innovative extended publicity campaigns designed to secure earned media and word-of-mouth for books. This person would be part of a large, creative publicity team that focuses both on launch publicity efforts and extended outreach, with a shared goal of delivering creative, dynamic campaigns with timely, impactful focus in order to reach the largest possible readership. This person will report to the Director of Publicity for BBD. BBD publishes a wide range of fiction and nonfiction, across a variety of genres that entertains, informs, and inspires. Our goal is to seek out and cultivate the most compelling, varied, and distinctive storytellers—and to bring their work to the broadest possible audience of readers.
This is an exciting opportunity to work on bestselling books and bring your unique ideas to help a campaign thrive beyond its launch window. The ideal candidate will have a passion for media, keen insight into the always-evolving news and social media buzz cycle, and an understanding for how to build second and third wave publicity campaigns, with innovative and bold ideas. A curious person who is excited to dig into consumer data and translate those insights and analytics into opportunities for books will thrive in this role. The role requires an ability to work quickly and independently, as well as being flexible and collaborative when working and brainstorming with others. The role also requires high-level pitching and messaging skills, and the ability to maintain excellent working relationships with authors, media, and other key stakeholders.
Specific responsibilities include:
- Plan, develop, and execute creative publicity campaigns that reach new audiences, and respond to trends and news of the day. This includes managing multiple titles and projects at once.
- Effectively communicate the campaign strategy to internal and external partners.
- Interpret consumer trends, insights, and sales data to identify publicity opportunities for titles.
- Maintain and extend professional media relationships and identify new opportunities in the ever-changing media landscape.
- Develop and execute targeted event strategy, including identifying new prospective event partners, for authors to reach new readers.
- Develop and maintain key professional relationships with authors, agents, booksellers and colleagues.
- Provide input for strategic campaign planning with publishing and marketing teams.
- Represent the publicity team at key internal and external meetings and contribute constructively.

- At least 3-5 years of relevant experience in public relations.
- Exceptional internal and external communication and pitching skills.
- Ability to think creatively about media outreach, events, and problem-solving.
- Strong relationships with national and regional media contacts.
- Experience presenting in front of internal and external stakeholders.
- Strong organizational skills and demonstrated ability to meet deadlines.
- Ability to prioritize and manage time effectively while also responding to urgent issues.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
The salary (range) for this position is $73,500. All positions are currently eligible for annual profit award or bonus, subject to Company results.
This hybrid position has occasional in-office responsibilities, including but not limited to in-office meetings, author visits or events, and daily ad hoc administrative projects. We will consider candidates who can work from a commutable distance to our offices at 1745 Broadway, which includes the tri-state area (NJ, CT, & PA).
