Sales Manager, National Accounts – Special Markets

 

The Special Markets department is looking for a Manager to sell titles across Penguin Random House to several national accounts in the specialty area. In this role, the individual will maintain regular contact with accounts, actively respond to customer needs, and develop new business. This is the perfect position for someone looking to advance his or her sales skills, develop product and market knowledge, collaborate with members of a dynamic sales department, and work with a wide variety of book titles.  

 

This position will be located in our 375 Hudson Street office.

 

Specific responsibilities include:

  1. Developing, maintaining, and enhancing relationships with key customers.
  2. Maximizing sales growth within the established account base by acquiring and renewing orders.
  3. Actively pursuing new business opportunities and wholesale accounts to further Penguin Random House dispersion into the marketplace.
  4. Creating, implementing, and maintaining account plan strategy for each account and modifying strategy based on sales trends and needs.
  5. Communicating with management regarding account activities (i.e. reorders, account strategy).
  6. Preparing monthly sales reports.
  7. Positioning relevant frontlist and backlist titles within account base.
  8. Developing and maintaining comprehensive knowledge of competitor, consumer, and industry trends.
  9. Staying up-to-date on new titles and other general information for customers.
  10. Communicating with key account contacts on all matters pertaining to buying, distributing, and marketing.
  11. Analyzing sales data as it relates to budgets and creating strategies to maximize sales within those budgets.
  12. Attending trade shows as needed.

 

Please apply if you meet the following minimum requirements:

  • Minimum of 3 years prior selling experience, experience within publishing a plus
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent presentation skills
  • Proven ability to work in a fast-paced, deadline driven environment
  • Ability to work effectively on a team as well as independently
  • Strong analytical skills with an emphasis on numbers and financials
  • Ability to travel up to 10% of the year via plane, train, or car
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook
