Publicity & Marketing Assistant (Hybrid)

We are seeking a highly organized and enthusiastic shared Publicity & Marketing Assistant to support the publicity and marketing teams for Ten Speed Press and Clarkson Potter. This role offers a unique opportunity to gain experience in both publicity and marketing within the publishing industry, working across a diverse range of titles and authors, including cookbooks, design books, graphic novels, gift products, pop culture and photography books. The ideal candidate is a proactive self-starter with excellent communication skills, a passion for lifestyle books, and a desire to learn and grow in a fast-paced, collaborative environment. This role will provide a comprehensive education in book publishing, working closely with various departments including Editorial, Sales, and Design. This is a hybrid position with in-office responsibilities that will require 3 days per week in the 1745 Broadway offices.  

 

Specific responsibilities include: 

 

Publicity:

  • Assists with the coordination and execution of publicity campaigns, including media outreach, author events, and online promotions. 
  • Creates and maintains detailed interview itineraries and tour schedules for publicity campaigns, coordinates travel and makes other arrangements. 
  • Drafts and copyedits press materials, including press releases, pitch and galley letters, author bios, Q&As, and social media posts. 
  • Coordinates media mailings and fulfills review copy requests. 
  • Tracks, reports, and archives media hits. 
  • Responds to emails and calls from media, authors, and booksellers.
  • Schedules interviews for assigned authors. 

 

Marketing: 

  • Assists with the creation of marketing materials, such as digital assets and sell sheets.
  • Coordinates and fulfills promotional book mailings each season.
  • Coordinates title-specific campaigns.
  • Assists with market research.
  • Maintains marketing asset libraries and databases.

  • Prior office/internship experience preferred
  • Genuine interest in publicity and marketing, particularly for lifestyle, design, and cookbook genres
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills
  • Familiarity with social media platforms and digital marketing tools
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize   
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Ability to take initiative and problem-solve creatively

 

The salary for this position is $51,000.00. All positions are currently eligible for annual profit award or bonus, subject to company results.   

 

This is a hybrid position with in-office responsibilities. We will consider candidates who can work from a commutable distance to our offices at 1745 Broadway, which includes the tri-state area (NJ, CT, & PA).
