Publicist/ Senior Publicist, Penguin Publishing Group Backlist

Penguin Publishing Group is seeking a creative and enthusiastic publicist to join a new team of backlist strategists, supporting the titles of all Penguin Publishing Group imprints, with a particular focus on practical nonfiction. 

This is an exciting opportunity to work with marketers and specialists throughout PPG to make a real impact on backlist sales growth—and to campaign specifically on the long-running titles consumers are most interested in reading in the current moment.

 

Essential Function and Responsibilities:

 

  1. Working in coordination with divisional imprint marketers, regularly pitch key backlist titles and authors for new media coverage and trend pieces, prioritizing titles and campaigns (from among very broad catalog) by current consumer insights and media opportunities
  2. Re-engage select authors for virtual events and/or partnership promotions at key moments during the year
  3. Brainstorm often with backlist team colleagues, the extensive PRH Consumer Insights and Engagement team, as well as imprint publicists to find new angles and audiences for continued sales growth on key titles
  4. Guide authors to continually leverage their own platforms for long-term book sales and track growth from efforts over time
  5. Establish and grow relationships with social media influencers and external partners for promotion in key non-fiction marketing categories
  6. Continually strategize and communicate further ways to enhance our titles’ visibility in the marketplace and grow backlist sales

 

Qualifications:

 

  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in book publishing with strong media relations and a keen interest in market trends
  • A motivated and innovative self-starter who is detail-oriented, able to work very well collaboratively, and with a proven ability to demonstrate good follow-up and follow-through
  • Ability to meet tight deadlines
  • Experience with MS Office suite
