Publicist, Random House Children's Books (Hybrid)

Random House Children’s Books seeks an enthusiastic and passionate Publicist to join its Publicity team. In this role you will have the opportunity to work on campaigns for picture books, middle-grade and YA novels as well as brand programs!

This is a hybrid position that may require coming into the New York city office on occasion. We will consider candidates who can work from a commutable distance to our offices at 1745 Broadway, which includes the tri-state area (NJ, CT, & PA).

 

Responsibilities:

  • Oversees publicity campaigns for assigned titles, as well as support senior members of the team on high-profile campaigns. 
  • Develops and manages relationships with authors and illustrators.
  • Pitches and secures media across a variety of trade and consumer outlets.
  • Executes national multi-city author tours, books in-store events, school appearances, and festival opportunities.
  • Interacts closely with internal Marketing, Sales and Editorial teams, and works hand-in-hand with authors/illustrators, booksellers, and reviewers externally to create and execute cohesive campaigns.
  • Meets with top media contacts to promote our list for possible coverage seasonally.

  

Requirements:  

  • Minimum 3 years of relevant experience
  • Experience and/or interest in Children’s publishing is preferred 
  • Ability to conceptualize creative out-of-the-box ideas for securing coverage for our authors/illustrators and brands
  • Ability to travel to support various author appearances including National Author Tours, National Book Festivals, Regional New York City events, Special Events, and Conferences 
  • Knowledge of and interest in the media landscape; existing relationships with book reviewers across outlets a plus
  • Excellent organizational, attention to detail, and time-management skills
  • Ability to multi-task, prioritize, and handle confidential information with discretion 
  • High sense of urgency and ability to problem-solve calmly in emergency situations
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, including Outlook, Word, Excel; social media savvy in the book publicity space

 

The salary for this position is $63,000.00. All positions are currently eligible for annual profit award or bonus, subject to company results.
