Production Manager (Open to Remote)

Penguin Random House seeks a Production Manager to manage the production and manufacturing of hardcover and softcover titles.This position plays a vital role in ensuring that books are produced within budget, delivered on time, and are of the highest quality. The ideal candidate will have extensive one-color (1C) and four-color (4C) experience, understand both offset and digital printing, possess strong organizational skills, excellent attention to detail, and can creatively problem-solve to meet strict deadlines.

Responsibilities: 

  • Consults with each publishing group to develop the specifications and schedules for individual titles. 
  • Negotiates schedules with the internal publishing teams and with external vendors. 
  • Issues purchase orders for each assigned title and approving necessary costs and invoices. 
  • Executes 1/C and 4/C prep, color correction, and manufacturing with domestic and foreign vendors. 
  • Preflights interior and exterior files in Acrobat and Pitstop. 
  • Trafficks materials and proof passes internally and to and from outside vendors. 
  • Enters and maintains book specifications within SAP and FMP. 
  • Exports reports out of SAP, FMP, and other systems using Excel tools to analyze data. 
  • Creates manufacturing estimates. 
  • Works closely with compositors, component printers, binderies, and conversion vendors with troubleshooting and maintaining schedules. 
  • Examines book and component samples to ensure quality benchmarks are maintained for each title. 
  • Collaborates extensively with Interior Design, Art, Managing Editorial, and Production Editorial departments to bring all titles to completion. 

  

Requirements: 

  • Minimum five years of experience with 1C and 4C manufacturing, domestic and offshore 
  • Ability to manage multiple responsibilities in a deadline-driven environment 
  • Strong estimating skills 
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills 
  • Excellent organization skills and attention to detail 
  • Fundamental knowledge of prepress, color correction, paper stock, printing, binding, and special effects 
  • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook 
  • Advanced proficiency with Adobe Acrobat 
  • Working knowledge of SAP and FileMaker Pro  
  • Knowledge of EnFocus Pitstop and Adobe InDesign and Photoshop a plus
  • Proficient with Mac and PC

 

The salary for this position is $70,000.00. All positions are currently eligible for annual profit award or bonus, subject to company results.
