The Penguin Young Readers Production Department is responsible for the manufacture of books.  This includes the estimating, vendor selection, order placement and the monitoring of the printing and binding of all the books’ components.  The Production Assistant for the Mass Merchandising area is expected to provide overall support to the Director and Merchandising Production staff.  This includes both administrative and book production duties.

 

Specific responsibilities include:

 

  • Monitors and maintains title status schedules for initial and/or rush reprints
  • Updates staff with printed production status notes
  • Enters/Maintains data in SAP – including the creation of purchase orders and invoicing
  • Estimates and quotes prospective projects
  • Verifies specifications (flight checking) of electronic mechanicals and uploads files to the vendor
  • Electronically monitors reprint corrections for approval
  • Interfaces with and route materials to Managing Editorial, Editorial and Design
  • Aids in the vendor correspondence of book titles – both domestic and overseas
  • Requests original titles to be archived and verifies completion
  • Reviews finished product for quality
  • Handles book distribution
  • Uploads testing reports and creates supporting COC documents when applicable
  • Performs other related projects or duties as assigned or required by division

  • 0 – 1 year prior book production or office experience
  • Ability to handle many titles simultaneously, shift priorities quickly and meet deadlines with a varied workload
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal & written with internal staff and external persons
  • Must be detail-oriented and organized
  • Ability to work well with numbers
  • Knowledge or Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign, Filemaker
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office
