Developer, FMP

The Information Technology department at Penguin Random House (PRH) is looking for a Developer to join their team.  This developer will report to the Manager of Applications. Our developers build products and services that are designed well, developed fast, and provide value. The Developer will work with a small development team within PRH in a dynamic, agile development environment.  

 

Responsibilities:  

  • FileMaker Pro Development: 
    • Develop, test, and maintain custom FileMaker Pro solutions to support our production workflows. 
    • Design and implement complex scripts for data import, validation, automation, and workflow optimization. 
    • Ensure data integrity and security through robust access control and permissions. 
    • Develop and maintain user-friendly interfaces with a focus on usability and accessibility. 
  • Web Development: 
    • Contribute to the full software development lifecycle, from design and development to deployment and maintenance. 
    • Build and maintain web applications using modern technologies such as React/Redux, Node.js, and PHP. 
    • Develop and maintain RESTful APIs for data integration and communication between systems. 
    • Participate in all aspects of frontend development, including HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. 
  • Cloud Technologies: 
    • Assist in the migration and management of applications on cloud platforms such as AWS. 
    • Leverage cloud services like S3, Lambda, and Cognito to enhance application performance and scalability. 
  • Collaboration & Communication: 
    • Work closely with cross-functional teams, including business stakeholders, product managers, and designers. 
    • Communicate effectively and professionally, both written and verbal. 
    • Proactively identify and resolve technical challenges. 

 

Qualifications: 

  • Experience with FileMaker Pro, including proficiency in layout design, scripting, calculations, reporting, and server/Go. 
  • Strong knowledge of JavaScript (ES6+), HTML5, CSS3, and one or more programming languages (PHP, Node, Python). Experience with React/Redux or similar frameworks. 
  • Strong knowledge of database concepts, ability to write complex SQL queries (MySQL, PostgreSQL), and awareness of OWASP top 10 security threats.  
  • Familiarity with designing and implementing RESTful APIs and object-oriented design. 
  • Experience with agile methodologies, source code control, and AWS environment (S3, containers, Lambda, Cognito). 
  • Excellent communication, problem-solving, decision-making, and multitasking abilities. 
  • Knowledge of website accessibility standards.

The salary range for this position is $95,000 – 115,000.
