Speakers Bureau Assistant, Penguin Random House

We are currently seeking an Assistant to join the Knopf Doubleday division of the Penguin Random House Speakers Bureau. The Penguin Random House Speakers Bureau represents world-class authors, leaders, and thinkers. The division works to secure paid speaking engagements for its roster of speakers at universities, libraries, corporations, conferences, and literary series around the world, virtually and in person. 


Job duties:


This position provides tremendous growth potential and affords an opportunity to work with some of our most popular house authors including Cheryl Strayed, Colson Whitehead, Anand Giridharadas, and Jennifer Egan.  The Assistant will provide general support to the Speakers Bureau team within the Knopf Doubleday division, reporting to the Executive Agent Director, and will:


  • Support Executive Agent Director with event coordination including creating contracts, booking travel when applicable (coordinating with event sponsor, speaker, and in-house travel agencies), and creating and updating detailed speaker itineraries.
  • Liaise directly with speakers and event sponsors on logistical details related to the events.
  • Maintain and update database including contact management, event details, and finances in coordination with the Speakers Bureau finance team.
  • Respond to general speaker inquiries from potential event sponsors by email and phone.
  • Aid the Speakers Bureau marketing team with the creation of content for the PRHSB website and social media channels, including drafting and updating speaker profiles and monitoring speaker news alerts.
  • Execute departmental mailings, research, and pitches to promote speakers to potential sponsors.
  • Work closely with Speakers Bureau staff cross-divisionally.
  • Attend company meetings to identify potential speakers as well as virtual and local speaking events.
  • Provide administrative support for Executive Agent Director and Assistant Agent Director.
  • Additional assignments, projects, and responsibilities, as needed.




  • Relevant internships and/or equivalent work experience required.
  • Candidate should demonstrate an exceptional ability to communicate in a very professional manner, have outstanding organizational skills, and a diplomatic approach to negotiations. 
  • We are looking for someone who has the ability to prioritize and multi-task in a rapidly changing, fast-paced environment.
  • Experience in book publishing is beneficial, but not required.
  • Candidate should also be a self-starter and must have impeccable attention to detail. 
  •  It is essential that the candidate is comfortable working in a small team environment and therefore possesses a proactive and independent approach to work, including excellent research and problem-solving skills.
  • The ideal candidate is savvy with social media and proficient in MS Office, particularly MS Outlook and Excel.
