Analyst, Business Intelligence (Open to Remote)
Do you enjoy tackling complex analytical problems, developing business intelligence tools, and helping others make sense of data? Penguin Random House is looking for a Business Intelligence Analyst to join our dynamic Business Intelligence team.
In this role, you’ll create and maintain data analysis solutions that provide key insights into our business and the publishing industry. While expertise in every listed skill isn’t required, we’re looking for someone eager to learn and grow in all aspects of the role.
Specific responsibilities include:
- Translate problems from the language of business to the language of data analysis. This will involve identifying business requirements for dashboards, translating them into requirements for our technical team, and ultimately building a PowerBI dashboard off our data models.
- Create self-service dashboards that allow others to find insights via data visualization. For example, creating a dashboard showing which bestseller lists our titles are hitting and the ranks they are achieving.
- Add new features and improvements to our current dashboards by understanding our users’ needs and inferring useful data visualization enhancements.
- Be the product owner: rollout, train, and support people on the tools you’ve developed. For example, learn our flagship publishing data application and answer specific user support questions.
- Work directly with book publishing professionals and executives (editors, marketers, publishers, sales, and finance) to answer their daily business questions related to billings, market analyses, etc.
- Actively seek out analytical applications across the company to build a data-driven culture.
Please apply if you meet the following qualifications:
- 2+ years of business intelligence or analytical experience
- Proficient with Power BI or any other business intelligence tool (Tableau, Looker, etc.) or any other reporting tool
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to effectively communicate with employees across all levels and functions within a company
- Proficient with Microsoft Excel (including vlookups, pivot tables, etc.)
- Ability to work both collaboratively and independently to meet competing deadlines
- UX / UI design and data visualization skills, to make very clear, intuitive, accessible dashboards
Preferred experience:
- Financial analysis
- Book publishing, media, or consulting experience
- SQL or DAX
