Manager, Reprint Production - (Open to remote)
The Penguin Random House Publishing Operations team is looking for a Production Manager to handle book production for reprints for the Random House Children’s Books Division.
We are growing! We’ve added new imprints to our list and need to grow our team to take on the new work. While we are extremely excited about our front list, our backlist is the cream of the crop: from the Cat in the Hat to The Poky Little Puppy, we proudly maintain the print and bind quality of our large list from printing to printing.
Our books range from all types of production: hardcover and paperback 1-color novels and 4-color picture books, board books, color-and-activity books, and novelty titles with all the bells and whistles. On the Publishing Operations team, we work closely with the RHCB division, processing correction files, managing expectations, creating cost-saving initiatives, and project support.
Responsibilities:
- Approving and maintaining accurate book specifications in the purchasing system, and issuing purchase orders to multiple vendors
- Continual date maintenance using vendor status reports
- Creating and advising on client schedules from acquisition to finished books
- Communicating to Inventory book statuses and shipping schedules
- Quality control checks of reprint samples, and follow up with vendors to solve production problems
- Coordinating with Managing Editorial release dates for correction files based on book delivery schedules, and tracking and routing printer proofs for approval
- Communication with Import Status team about overseas shipping authorizations and schedules
- Invoice resolution with Accounts Payable once books deliver
Requirements:
- Minimum 5 years book production experience
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Meticulous organizational skills
- Strong knowledge and understanding of the book production process, from prepress to completed book
- Basic color theory from a print production perspective
- Self-starter, with the ability to prioritize and multitask in a fast-paced environment
- Creative problem-solving skills
- Ability to work independently
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, and experience with the Acrobat Adobe Suite and pre-flighting of files
- Understanding vendor estimates and providing accurate costs for producing books
- Experience with SAP purchasing system a plus
The salary for this role is $73,500. All positions are currently eligible for annual profit award or bonus, subject to company results.
