Analyst, Business Systems - (Open to remote)

Penguin Random House is seeking a Business Systems Analyst with exceptional communication, analytical, and project management skills. The Business Systems Analyst will join the Customer Operations team, responsible for maintaining a proprietary metadata and asset distribution system. This role is critical in supporting Penguin Random House’s data feeds to external customers and plays a central role in ensuring the system’s processes are efficiently managed and enhanced with the ever-changing needs of the business and the marketplace. 

 

The Business Systems Analyst will be responsible for maintaining operational relationships with key internal stakeholders and with PRH’s customers across format groups. They will gain understanding of our customers’ operations as well as analyze data to find opportunities for PRH to develop competitive advantages in our supply chain capabilities. They will also liaise with Sales, Production, Publishing, Operations, and our back-office teams to affect positive change, troubleshoot issues, and implement scalable solutions.  

 

This position is ideal for someone with a technical background, who enjoys complex problem-solving, and who is adaptable to a frequently evolving marketplace. While familiarity with agile development processes and book industry data standards are strongly recommended, this position’s key competencies will be in communication, analysis, and process-focused skills.  

 

Specific responsibilities include:

 

  • Collaborate with stakeholders and customers to gather and understand business requirements 
  • Translate business needs into technical requirements to then design and execute solutions  
  • Develop and execute test plans to ensure that solutions are thoroughly tested and meet functional and technical requirements  
  • Articulate and manage clear, well-structured requirements and subsequent documentation 
  • Gather and analyze large data sets to derive insights and drive business decisions 
  • Facilitate Agile lifecycle phases including, backlog grooming, scrum planning, and retrospectives 
  • Create reports, dashboards and visualizations to help others understand business performance 
  • Analyze process issues and bottlenecks to make improvements, and identify automation opportunities 
  • Analyze daily and weekly exception reports, troubleshooting any issues that arise, identifying root causes and adjusting to prevent against them in the future 
  • Monitor nightly early warning system and escalate as any issues arise 

 

Please apply if you meet the following qualifications: 

 

  • 3+ years of experience in business systems analysis or related fields 
  • 2+ years of experience with distribution and digital asset management systems 
  • Demonstrated proficiency with ONIX and book industry metadata standards 
  • Advanced Excel skills, including the ability to build pivot tables, lookups, create compound and complex formulas, and data validation 
  • Analytical, data-driven approach; logical thinker with ability to articulate meaningful conclusions found in the data 
  • Familiarity with agile product development methodologies
  • Exceptional communication skills, with the ability to collaborate with stakeholders across different departments and levels of the organization 
  • Ability to effectively prioritize work across multiple projects, working with supervisor as needed 
  • Ability to thrive either while working independently or in a team environment 
  • Outstanding attention to detail and follow-through 
  • Project management experience and familiarity with tools like JIRA, Basecamp, and ServiceNow, a plus  
  • Ops nerds welcome! 

 

This position is open to remote candidates.      

 

The salary range for this position is $66,500 - $70,000. All positions are currently eligible for annual profit award or bonus, subject to Company results.
