Assistant Director of Publicity, Penguin Random House Christian Publishing Group (Open to Remote)
The Penguin Random House Christian Publishing Group (PRHCPG) is seeking an experienced, creative, and enthusiastic Assistant Director of Publicity to join our WaterBrook, Multnomah, Image, and Forum imprints. This position reports to the VP, Director of Publicity and will lead top-tier media campaigns to bring the imprints’ publications to the largest possible readership. We publish a broad range of Christian authors including John Mark Comer, Mark Batterson, Michael Todd, Jordan Lee Dooley, Jennie Allen, Manny Arango, Ashley Heatherington, Madison Prewett Troutt, Sarita Lyons, Angela Halili and Arielle Reitsma, Rich Villodas, Katie Davis Majors, Stephanie Ike Okafor, and Joni Eareckson Tada.
We are seeking an Assistant Director of Publicity with a proven track record of national press hits, taking faith-based books mainstream, to join our dynamic team. This role will be hands-on in the creation and execution of customized publicity campaigns for a variety of titles including nonfiction and children’s.
The ideal candidate will have experience planning and executing PR campaigns and tours for high-profile non-fiction and/or children’s books, an established network of national broadcast, podcast, print and online media contacts—both within the general market and Christian outlets—and excel in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment. Candidates should have an interest in and expertise in working with leaders in the Christian, cultural, and political space as well as celebrities and athletes. Candidates need to have strong internal and external communication skills, be adept in time management, and have a keen eye for detail.
The person in this position will interact internally with PRHCPG’s marketing, sales, and editorial teams, and externally with authors, agents, booksellers, and members of the press.
Specific responsibilities include:
- Spearheading the planning and execution of publicity campaigns for assigned top-tier titles; this includes identifying possible readerships, maximizing exposure for our authors and books through earned media rollouts, and creating dynamic author events
- Developing, researching, and maintaining strong relationships with national TV, print, radio/podcast, online, and local media contacts.
- High-touch author care and attentive communication with authors and agents.
- Working with booksellers and retailers for author signings, on-site sales, or bulk buys.
- Creating multi-city tours
- Collaborating and effectively partnering with marketing, editorial, and sales departments.
- Writing creative press materials, pitches, and other collateral material with the goal of securing national coverage.
- Media training and prepping authors for media and events.
- Representing the division at meetings, presentations, and events.

- At least 6+ years of relevant experience in public relations, book publishing experience preferred
- Exceptional written and oral communication and pitching skills
- Existing relationships with mainstream and Christian media contacts
- Strong organizational skills and demonstrated ability to meet deadlines
- Ability to prioritize and manage time effectively while also responding to urgent issues
- Collaborative, curious reader across areas, detail-oriented, organized, problem-solver, and self-motivated
- Ability to work seamlessly in a team and to mentor junior staff
- Enthusiasm for Christian books
- Faith-based publishing is a plus but not required
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
The PRHCPG office is located in Colorado Springs, Colorado. This position is open to remote candidates.
The salary range for this position is $83,000-$87,000. All positions are currently eligible for annual profit award or bonus, subject to Company results.
