Who Are We Looking for? 

We are looking for a Publishing Assistant to join our Random House Canada team to help us on our mission to leave readers better than we found them. Our editorial team is committed to evolving and stretching in new directions, while continuing to be home to strong, award-winning Canadian and international voices writing about issues that reflect the world around us. In this role, the successful candidate will get an in-depth, 360 view of the publishing industry and enhance their knowledge of the editorial process in a dynamic, hands-on environment. The Publishing Assistant will report to our Random House Canada Publisher and provide administrative and organizational support to the Random House Canada imprint to achieve creative integrity, execute to a high standard and deliver outstanding books to readers everywhere.

 

What you will do:  

  • Responsible for a range of practical tasks to assist with the smooth running of the department, including but not limited to galley printings, NetGalley coordination, book mailing and distribution of departmental and author/agent book copies 

  • Support in preparing materials for sales launches 

  • Assist the team with manuscript evaluation and editorial reading 

  • Support the Publisher and Managing Editor as needed 

  • Partner with the Editorial Assistant for Intern oversight 

  • Track imprint grids and lists 

  • Commit to helping our books achieve the highest standards: culturally aware, well-planned, creatively exceptional, distinctive and engaging 

  • Empower those around you by working in a collaborative way 

 

What you will bring to Random House Canada:  

  • Previous experience working in a publishing environment 

  • Strong organization and prioritization skills to manage multiple projects at the same time and stay on deadline 

  • Exceptional copyediting and proofreading skills 

  • High standards of quality, consistency and accuracy 

  • Knowledge and awareness in emerging business and cultural trends in and outside the publishing industry 

  • Entrepreneurial spirit with a proactive approach to problem-solving, identifying and acting on ways to improve the work 

  • Empathy and consideration towards different perspectives
