Network Engineer (contract role)

We are actively seeking an experienced Senior Network Engineer for a 6–8-month contract to manage our network infrastructure and contribute to our strategic roadmap for our Sydney or Melbourne office. The ideal candidate will have an advanced understanding of Cisco technologies (including switches, routers, Firepower firewalls, ISE, wireless networks, and WLCs) and hands-on experience with Riverbed WAN optimisers and Palo Alto firewalls. This role also values a candidate with a strategic mindset who can mentor team members and support the infrastructure roadmap's development.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and manage Cisco-based network solutions, including advanced configurations of switches, routers, and Firepower firewalls.
- Administer Cisco ISE for secure network access control and policy enforcement.
- Oversee and optimise wireless infrastructure with Cisco WAPs and WLCs to ensure connectivity.
- Manage Riverbed WAN optimisers to enhance network performance and streamline traffic.
- Implement network segmentation and ensure security measures align with best practices.
- Configure and deploy Palo Alto firewalls for optimal security and performance.
- Monitor network health and troubleshoot issues proactively, implementing solutions for consistent operation.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams on network-related issues, initiatives, and projects.
- Contribute to the infrastructure roadmap to align network strategies with organisational goals.
- Mentor infrastructure team members, promoting continuous learning and knowledge sharing.
- Document configurations, processes, and procedures to enhance team reference and process continuity.
Qualifications
- Minimum of 5 years in network engineering, with expertise in Cisco technologies.
- Proficient with Cisco ISE, wireless networks, and network segmentation practices.
- Experience with Riverbed WAN optimisation and Palo Alto firewall configuration.
- Strong understanding of security practices and demonstrated infrastructure roadmap contributions.
- Relevant certifications (e.g., CCNP) are highly valued.
- Excellent problem-solving abilities and strong communication skills.
