The Role/The Team


The Global Content Team is responsible for the management of all programming (both Scripted and Non-Scripted) in the Fremantle International catalogue, including working creatively at development stage and investment through to acquiring rights and sales reporting to producers.


The purpose of the role is to support the Acting VP of Global Content, scripted to ensure we develop and secure the best Scripted content and manage its journey from treatment to screen, through the distribution process via international sales and to ensure that International is offering the best service to producers. The role is broad and demands strong attention to detail, specialist knowledge of the international content market, the ability to manage large amounts of commercial data, to work to tight deadlines without supervision and an ability to priorities, making key decisions across the department when required.


This role requires proficient knowledge of programming rights, programme finance and international programme sales, incorporating an understanding of the dynamics of UK and international television production and the commissioning process.


Key Responsibilities:


Content Acquisition - Editorial Evaluation

  • Identify quality, commercial scripted content from global producers for international and commercial exploitation to help fulfil the needs of Fremantle’s scripted pipeline. 
  • Proactively seeking out new opportunities, introducing producers to Fremantle and “selling” our capabilities and proficiencies.
  • To support the Acting VP, Scripted Content, evaluate new projects in a timely matter and if appropriate, formulate offers for and negotiate rights in those projects.
  • Ensure timely response from Fremantle on any new submissions and oversee the delegation of projects to key team members to ensure fast turnaround evaluation and next steps.
  • To review the FM Screenings system and work with the Acting VP and marketing teams to improve and implement a new process to ensure episodes are available for internal and external viewing in a more timely and efficient manner.
  • Plan and co-present regular programme pitches at the fortnightly New Content Meeting, to obtain sales team buy-in on selected projects.


Financial Evaluation

  • Supervise sales forecasts of new projects, building the initial case, sense checking those figures using familiarity of market prices and trends, and, presenting back to VP of Scripted.
  • Having identified new projects for acquisition, in agreement with VP of Scripted, write business plans recommendations for senior management investment sign off.
  • Working with the VP of Scripted to implement a new Scripted Forecast Process to present back to Senior Management.



  • On projects agreed with the Acting VP, negotiate commercial terms for acquisition of third party and in-house titles, to maximize return to International.
  • As agreed with the Acting VP, oversee the Acquisitions Managers deals, working closely with internal departments as appropriate.
  • Demonstrate contractual expertise and an eye for detail when negotiating deals – often to tight deadlines - ensuring an optimum deal position for International as well as the Fremantle Group.


Account Management

  • Working creatively with our in-house producers, presenting International’s overall strategy and assisting them in developing the most commercially attractive content
  • Establish, maintain and expand on relationships with a range of internal and third-party producers, as agreed between you and the VP of Scripted, and work with those producers on commercial strategies for their programming and developments.
  • Advise independent producers on how their ideas might be developed to maximise their international commercial potential.
  • Working creatively with our in-house producers, presenting International’s overall strategy and assisting them in developing the most commercially attractive content
  • Working closely with the Acting VP to guide, role model and train the team when necessary, to ensure they maintain first-class producer liaison for all programming in the International catalogue, answering queries from producers (both internal and third party) Oversee the post-market reports (MIP and MIPCOM) process, ensuring they are compiled to a high standard, up to date and sent out no later than 5 weeks after a market and planned and produced in a timely and effective manner.
  • Establish pro-active communication with all internal departments and our third-party producers with a specific focus on Global Drama, Legal, Rights, Finance and Operations


Information tracking and sharing

  • Contribute to the management of FMI’s internal processes to ensure all confirmed and potential acquisitions are captured and properly logged for consideration and potential distribution.  Supervise information on pipeline documents ensuring that it is correct and regularly updated.
  • Contribute to the smooth flow of information between the Global Content Department and all other departments, particularly the Sales team.
  • Initiate and track programme pitch marketing materials produced by the Marketing department, both before, during and after an acquisition as necessary.
  • Alongside the Acquisition Manager, liaise regularly with DMS technical teams to ensure full and timely delivery of programmes and programme materials, alerting appropriate Sales, Finance and Legal teams inter alia to any substantial variations and overseeing more challenging issues. 
  • Where appropriate, attend industry markets such as MIPTV, MIPCOM and others as planned by the department.


Skills Required:

  • Substantial TV Acquisitions experience, with extensive experience dealing with complex international financing and co-production
  • Extensive knowledge of the creative process and industry benchmarks in terms of creative and commercial standards. Production experience is a benefit.
  • An editorial vision, commercial acumen and the confidence to critique programming in relation to international potential of the project
  • Proven ability to identify new programming with commercial potential and to work with producers to develop their ideas editorially to produce the best commercial and international programmes.
  • Knowledge of and exposure to key industry personnel; ability to initiate and maintain and grow relationships with senior commercial personnel at top independent production companies.
  • Detailed knowledge of the international TV market across key territories including the US, UK, France and Germany
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Ability to demonstrate excellent negotiation and influencing skills
  • Passion for content across all genres
  • Ability to track and manage large amounts of data required in the acquisitions process. 
  • Ability to organise workload to fit to a dynamic and fast-paced acquisition processes timeframe.
