Principal (Venture) Health, Bertelsmann Next


At Bertelsmann Next, we are a team of entrepreneurs, investment professionals, and operators striving to bring Bertelsmann’s health technology ambitions to live. We’re aiming to operate a health technology business within the next 12 – 18 months – most likely, entering via an acquisition – and to build a thriving venture portfolio. 


In this role you will lead the our US venture capital activities in the health. You will be responsible for building a thriving venture portfolio – from defining the investment thesis to developing ecosystem relationships and building trust with founders to leading due diligences and supporting our portfolio companies post investment. This is a truly entrepreneurial role at the intersection of conceptual and relationship-focused work. This role reports to the SVP Bertelsmann Next and is part of the Bertelsmann Next leadership group.



What success looks like
Within 12 months you will have been successful if you:
•    Independently identified attractive investment opportunities and participated in said processes
•    Conducted high-quality due diligences in said processes
•    Successfully deployed capital into the target opportunities
•    Build Bertelsmann Next’s brand as an attractive and desirable investor
•    Developed relationships with market participants, investors, and potential targets
•    Ideally, have helped incubate 1 or more companies
•    Supported to our international health investment efforts
•    Made pivotal, positive contributions to the team’s entrepreneurial, high quality, and collaborative culture


Who you are

•    Are a relationship builder
•    Love the joy and thrill of finding the interesting investment opportunities
•    Enjoy thinking about business models and how to create value
•    Are a strong strategic and conceptual thinker
•    Ideally, have 5+ years of experience as in principal investing / venture capital and / or as an operator
•    Ideally, have 5+ years of experience in healthcare
•    Have a proven track of rigorous execution
•    Enjoy collaboration, creativity, and problem solving
•    Love to dare and are happy to go big – while maintaining integrity
•    Enjoy learning, inquiring, and identifying growth/ investment opportunities
•    Most likely, have an advanced degree (MBA, MSC, PhD, or similar)
•    Willing and able to travel 30+% of the time.
