Manager, Corporate Benefits - M&A and Special Projects
Position Overview
The Manager, Corporate Benefits – M&A and Special Projects is primarily responsible for providing Bertelsmann operating companies with acquisition support and expertise on employee benefits issues, including assisting with due diligence and supporting integrations of recently acquired entities. Under the guidance of the Chief People Officer the Manager, Corporate Benefits would also partner with the business, vendors, and consultants on key projects, such as the implementation of new vendors. Additionally, the Manager, Corporate Benefits provides excellent customer service to internal and external stakeholders by providing analytical support. The Manager, Corporate Benefits may also assist with the preparation of compliance filings.
The Manager, Corporate Benefits is part of the Corporate Benefits Department, which has the responsibility of developing, negotiating and customizing all health, welfare and retirement plans for each of the subsidiary Companies within the United States, including Penguin Random House, BMG, FremantleMedia, Arvato, Bertelsmann Education Group, Bertelsmann Printing Group and other holdings/groups, including any new acquisitions.
Job Description
• Lead benefits due diligence review of potential target organizations including, but not limited to conducting financial analysis, preparing cost comparisons, and preparing reports
• Provides advice to subsidiary HR and business leads on best approaches to transition acquired employees onto Bertelsmann’s benefits platform
• Manage post-closing benefits integrations of HRIS and Benefits integration for acquisitions, spin-offs, carve-outs, and other transactions
• Liaise with benefits vendors to assist with smooth transition of benefits providers to employees
• Assist with applicable statuary filings and provide assistance with compliance such as 5500s, 720s, ACA Reporting, ERISA, COBRA, FMLA, SECTION 125, Medicare, IRS, and DOL requirements
• Analyze changes to state and federal laws pertaining to benefits recommend appropriate changes to management
• Project manage implementation of new vendors and process by collaborating with internal teams and vendor partners
• Support implementation by articulating business needs to the vendor implementation manager
• Ensure proper document retention of all acquisitions and implementations in accordance with statutory and internal business practices
Qualifications and Education Requirements
• 5-7 years of work experience managing Retirement or Health & Welfare benefits plans, including 3 years of related M&A experience; Brokerage or consulting experience preferred
• Bachelor’s degree or related experience required; CEBS certification preferred
• Must have strong analytical capability and the ability to work on complex problems in which analysis of situations or data requires an in-depth evaluation and comfort with financial analysis
• Solid interpersonal skills and client service orientation with focus on high quality service to internal and external stakeholders
• Must be flexible; have the ability to work independently or as a team player in a fast paced and decentralized environment
• Must be detail oriented, highly organized and have excellent judgment
• Must be proficient in Microsoft Excel and other Office applications
• Expert knowledge of pertinent federal and state regulations, and filing and compliance requirements affecting employee benefit programs such as ERISA, COBRA, FMLA, SECTION 125, Medicare, DOL, and IRS requirements
