The Senior Human Resources Generalist under the general direction of the Assistant Director Human Resources plays a vital role on the team.  As a Senior Human Resources Generalist, you will be a hybrid HR professional in a challenging environment. You will work closely with other department managers, front line employees and the Systemwide Senior Director, Human Resources.  Your responsibilties will include full cycle recruitment, sourcing, hiring, onboarding, employee relations performance evaluations, personnel policies, and meeting regulatory compliance standards in addition to various administrative functions.  The role will undertake a wide range of HR tasks, like organizing training, administering employeee benefits and leaves and crafting HR polices. You will use Human Resources Information Systems to ensure all emplyee records are up-to-date and confidential. You will function as the main point of contact for employees' queries on HR-related topics.  The goal is to ensure the HR department's operations will be running smoothly ane effectively to deliver maximum value to the University.  This position will collaborate with all departments across the University to ensure a positive and consistent employee experience and provide HR support to all employees and faculty.  Success in this role requires the ability to get the job done quickly and efficiently, to be a team player, and provide added value to departments with every interaction. 

 

Duties & Responsibilities:

Recruitment:

  • Will play a critical role in ensuring the attraction and employment of top talent with a primary focus on recruitment of academic (e.g., Faculty and academic support staff) and operational positions (e.g., Enrollment, Student Services, Finance, Marketing, etc.) while working in a fun yet fast-paced team environment.
  • This individual will work with the HR Team to develop creative hiring solutions as well as lead training and development of our internal staff.
  • Support the needs of the University with full-cycle recruitment: requisition creation, approval, intake & planning, calibration, sourcing, screening, interview  planning & execution, selection, assessment, offer management, coordination of onboarding.
  • Be a trusted advisor to Managers, coach, counsel and help continuously develop the ability of managers to assess and select top quality talent.
  • In partnership with the Human Resources Director, will assist in managing external recruitment Agencies execution of the recruitment strategy established for assigned openings.
  • Monitor data integrity, metrics and foster continuous improvement in recruitment operations, including analyzing and reporting on recruiting analytics for key client groups.
  • Conduct recruitment for the most strategic openings within the University while partnering closely with Senior Leaders and Assistant Director, Human Resources. 
  • Develop a sourcing strategy for these openings with the Hiring Manager and Assistant Director, Human Resources, identify candidates & present a diverse slate to the Hiring Manager for interview and assessment.
  • Partner with hiring managers and Assistant Director, Human Resources to outline the needs of the hiring manager and the requirements and expectations of the position.
  • Source and recruit candidates using a variety of outlets, such as job postings and social media, while effectively targeting high-quality candidates for the position through a diversity, equity, and inclusion lens.
  • Seek out and recommend creative new ways of sourcing talent.
  • Develop a pool of qualified candidates by posting open positions to appropriate Internet sources and job boards.
  • Attend career job fairs as needed for meeting recruitment needs and enhancing University recognition.
  • Coordinate the interview process, including pre-screening of resumes, sending application packets, arranging interviews, and facilitating skills testing, as needed.
  • Responsible for coordinating onboarding from start to finish including but not limited to offer letters, new hire paperwork, ordering background checks and scheduling first day. 
  • Communicate closely with hiring managers about onboarding status.
  • Perform reference and background checks for potential employees.
  • Follow up with selected candidates by sending offer letters and new hire information. 
  • Completes necessary new hire paperwork for personnel files and enter employee data into HRIS.
  • Maintain ATS, databases and spreadsheets of recruitment activities.
  • Meet with new employees as part of their onboarding, providing a welcoming spirit and high touch customer service
  • Assist with New Employee Orientation as needed.
  • Assist with the creation of job descriptions.
  • Assist the Assistant Director, Human Resources in conducting regular follow-up with managers to determine the effectiveness of recruiting plans and implementation.

Human Resources:

  • Facilitate and manage employee new hire orientation; provide policy, benefit, and company information.
  • Maintain job descriptions for all positions, monitor changes to duties and recommend classification analysis if needed.
  • Complete and coordinate employee paperwork for new hires, changes, and terminations.
  • Maintain personnel records.
  • Track data, generate and distribute reports on a timely basis.
  • Counsel employees and supervisors/managers to facilitate resolution of employee relation issues. 
  • Ensure fairness and consistency throughout the counseling process and recommend employment actions.
  • Assist with investigations and maintain appropriate documentation.
  • Provide advice and coaching to help employees manage performance or career issues as appropriate.
  • Respond to unemployment claims.
  • Partner with HR, benefits and/or payroll on cases involving termination, severance, workers compensation, and disability.
  • Assist with the development and distribution of department communications and documentation to ensure understanding of HR policies, programs, and activities.
  • Coordinate company sponsored employee services and activities.
  • Support special projects.
  • Assist with the administration and presentation of employee training relating to employment, performance management, supervision, etc.
  • Provide consultation and interpretation of policies and procedures to supervisory staff and employees.
  • Assist with the implementation and administration of human resources related policies, procedures, forms, and programs.
  • Assist with compliance initiatives (including HR Self Audit and supporting actions).
  • Maintain a working knowledge of local, state, and federal regulations to ensure that employment actions and programs are in compliance.
  • Perform other related tasks, duties and responsibilities as required, assigned, or directed.

 

Knowledge and Skills: 

  • Knowledge of Human Resources, preferably in higher education or a related field.

  • Intermediate skills in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook); as well as proficiency, understanding and/or experience working with ATS or other HRIS systems.
  • Possess a general knowledge of applicable state and federal employment regulations.
  • Ability to work independently, have good judgment, and the necessary discretion to maintain the confidentiality of highly sensitive issues and information.
  • Exceptional people skills.
  • Possess strong organization, written and verbal communication, and customer service skills.
  • The incumbent must be trustworthy, ethical and exhibit a high degree of integrity.
  • Proven ability to work effectively as a collaborator; initiative-taking, focused and results oriented. 
  • Ability to exercise discretion and tact in all interpersonal contacts, and to maintain confidentiality at all times. 

 

Minimum Qualifications: 

Education: Bachelor's Degree from an accredited four-year college or university in Human Resources, business administration, or related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience. 

Experience: Five (5) years of experience in Human Resources, prior experience in higher education is a plus. 

Certifications, Licenses, etc: none: PHR or SHRM-CP credential is a plus.
