Senior Accountant

The Senior Accountant will be responsible for assisting with the preparation of accurate and timely monthly financial statements, reporting and analysis, validating internal controls and serving as the first point of contact for Alliant International University’s employees on accounting policies. The Senior Accountant will exhibit the highest professional standards and ethical principles and will be committed to the tenets of of Alliant International University's Mission and Vision. 

 

Duties & Responsibilities: 

  • Along with the Controller and Staff Accountant, coordinate with the outsourced accounts payable and accounting service provider to ensure that invoices are processed in a timely manner and that the financial statements are accurately completed on time. 
  • Serve as an interface to University faculty and staff to provide technical assistance on accounting and procurement practices, procedures, and systems. 
  • Prepare periodic financial reporting for the international company headquarters and interface on accounting and treasury related matters. 
  • Review General Ledger detail for accuracy and completeness and create necessary correcting journal entries when required. 
  • Review General Ledger reconciliations prepared by the oursourced accounting provider and make suggestions for improvements. 
  • Provide month end and ad hoc accounting reports as needed. 
  • Prepare accounting and other financial schedules and analyses, as required. 
  • Provide technical support for the annual Financial Audits and internal audits including generation of schedules, research, reconciliations, etc. and on accounting practices and procedures for budget analysts and campus associates. 
  • General Leger accounts reconciliation preparation and review for benefits and payroll taxes.
  • SAP Finanical Statements: Support and assist the SAP monthly and quarterly reporting in BeCure (MAMs, CI Pack and C Pack).
  • Support with quarterly tax filings. 
  • Manage subsidiary accounting and/or processes-Interface with Mexican subsidiary
  • Review agent commission payables and invoicing.
  • Perform other related tasks, duties and responsibilties as required, assigned, or directed. 

 

Skills: 

  • Intermediate to advanced computer skills, including advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office programs, especially MS Excel and MS Word: ERP experience (Campus Nexus Student, SAP, Intacct, etc.) with solid knowledge of integrated accounting software. 
  • Accounting skills, organizational, written, and oral communications, decision-making, problem-solving and research skills. 
  • A strong work ethic, capacity to get things done independently, and consistent performance with a sense of urgency and commitment. 
  • Excellent customer-service skills, including sensititivy to cultural diversity and ability to communicate and interact effectively with people of all ages and diverse backgrounds. 
  • Proven ability to work effectively as a team player; highly motivated, focused and results oriented. 
  • Ability to exercise discretion and tack in all inpersonal contacts, and to maintain confidentiality at all times. 
  • Ability to be optimistic, positive, and supportive in all interactions with others. 
  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail. 
  • Fluency in Spanish a plus due to interaction with Mexican subsidiary. 

 

Minimum Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor's Degree: from an accredited four-year college or university in Accounting, or equivalent combination of education and relevant work experience. 
  • Experience: Four (4) years of relevant accounting experience. Familiarity with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP). Experience in the higher education industry preferred. 
  • Certifications, Licenses, etc.: None, but CPA preferred
