We’re looking for a motivated Junior Financial Analyst to join our finance team.

Your contribution to the story:
Reporting to the Controller, you will play a key role in supporting our Finance team’s complex and dynamic work. ensuring financial information is prepared and available in a timely manner while gaining exposure to all facets of the publishing industry. 

 

What you'll do:

  • Complete monthly reporting tasks, including reconciliation to the general ledger and preparation of journal entries.
  • Collect data and contribute insights and recommendations to help make informed, data-driven decisions.
  • Work closely with various departments and teams to ensure the timely and efficient distribution of information. 
  • Assist in providing supporting schedules to external auditors. 
  • Ensure compliance with financial guidelines, company policies, and relevant legal regulations. 
  • Contribute to department and organization special projects.

 

Experience and knowledge you'll bring (qualifications):

  • Education in accounting or a related field, or three years or more of equivalent work-related experience.
  • Excellent time management, organization, and prioritization skills that position you to successfully deliver against tight, competing deadlines. 
  • A solution-focused mindset coupled with a drive to identify opportunities for continuous improvement and follow through to implement them.
  • Demonstrated proficiency using Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Word).
  • Strong attention to accuracy and detail.
  • Self-motivated with an ability to meet strict deadlines for closing process and project timelines.
  • Well-developed written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work with confidential information using sound judgement and discretion.
  • An inclusive approach supported by cultural competency and a proven ability to collaborate with people from across a wide range of diverse backgrounds.
  • Experience with SAP is not required but is considered an asset.
  • Enhanced knowledge, awareness, and experience with the culture and history of any community that has faced marginalization are considered a plus.
  • Interest in or knowledge of media or publishing is considered a plus. 
  • And of course, a love of books!

 

 

This role will work out of our office at 320 Front Street at least three days per week. As such, candidates located within commuting distance of Toronto will be shown preference.
