Job Description

We’re looking for a Marketing Manager to join the Transworld Marketing team in an exciting role that combines standout book marketing with a broader opportunity to help shape how we understand, reach and grow our audiences.

About Transworld

Home to bestselling and award-winning authors across fiction and non-fiction, Transworld publishes an incredibly varied range of books – from the biggest commercial brands, including Dan Brown and Lee Child, and landmark, conversation-starting non-fiction such as Nobody’s Girl by Virginia Roberts Giuffre, to literary bestsellers and exciting new voices such as Lost Lambs by Madeline Cash.

The role

At its heart, this is a campaign marketing role. You’ll lead creative, ambitious and commercially effective campaigns across a portfolio of non-fiction and fiction titles, working closely with authors and colleagues across Marketing, Publicity, Editorial and Sales to connect brilliant books with the readers who will love them.

But you'll also become a key audience voice within the Transworld Marketing team, helping us deepen our knowledge of our readers and put audience thinking at the heart of our campaigns. We want to lead the way in understanding not only who is buying our books, but who could be: where those audiences spend their time, what they care about, which communities they belong to and what will make them discover, engage with and ultimately buy a book.

Key responsibilities:

  • Create and deliver creative, audience-led marketing campaigns across non-fiction and fiction.
  • Identify the audiences with the greatest potential for our books and develop creative strategies to reach, engage and convert them.
  • Build trusted relationships with authors and agents, confidently communicating campaign strategy and results.
  • Champion audience-first thinking, spotting consumer, cultural, social and platform trends, identifying opportunities for our books and authors, and sharing learning and best practice across the team.
  • Bring audience insight to wider publishing conversations, including acquisitions, new publishing opportunities and strategic projects.

What you’ll bring

You don’t need to have worked in publishing before. We’re really interested in hearing from marketers in other industries who can bring fresh thinking and experience of growing and engaging audiences.

We’re looking for someone who is first and foremost a great marketer – creative, commercially minded and excited about finding the right audience for an idea.

This is an opportunity to work on major campaigns across an extraordinarily varied publishing list while developing a broader specialism in audience expansion – helping us understand where our future readers are and how we can reach them.

Over time, we’d love this person to become a recognised Audience Lead within our Marketing team, sharing expertise and championing new approaches, always with audience insight at the heart of our marketing.

Essential criteria:

  • Significant proven experience of delivering creative, effective consumer marketing campaigns, balancing strategic thinking with hands-on delivery.
  • A genuine fascination with audiences, culture and consumer behaviour, with experience using data and insight to improve campaign performance.
  • Strong digital marketing knowledge across social platforms, content, creators and paid media.
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills, with the confidence to work with authors, agents and stakeholders.
  • Strong commercial judgement and budget management, alongside excellent organisation and the ability to manage multiple campaigns and priorities.
  • A collaborative mindset, with a willingness to share ideas, expertise and learning, and curiosity to experiment with AI and emerging technology.
  • Experience in publishing, media, entertainment, consumer brands, retail, technology or another audience-led business.

Application instructions

Please apply with your CV and cover letter (both in PDF format) outlining why you are the right candidate for the role by 11:59pm on Sunday 18th October. The cover letter should be uploaded as an additional document.

As part of your cover letter, please answer the following question:

What does audience-first marketing mean to you, and can you give us an example of how you've put it into practice?

Salary

£40,000 - £44,000 dependent on how your skills and experience align to the role, plus bonus and benefits.

Here at Penguin, we believe in the power of authenticity and human creativity. When you apply for a position, we want to encourage you to showcase your unique voice. Disability Confident

The essential criteria for this role are listed as part of the ‘What you’ll bring’ section. We encourage you to tell us about any reasonable adjustments you may need by emailing PRHCareersUK@penguinrandomhouse.co.uk. Remember, you only need to share what you are comfortable with, for us to support your request.
