Job Description
Arvato is seeking a hands-on, self-motivated Facilities Maintenance & Logistics Engineering Manager to lead proactive and preventive facility maintenance while driving engineering initiatives that improve operational efficiency, productivity, and service performance across our Louisville, Kentucky facility.
In this role, you will leverage your expertise in facilities management, logistics engineering, automation, and process improvement to maximize equipment utilization, optimize facility resources, and support scalable supply chain operations while meeting safety, quality, and budget objectives. You will collaborate cross-functionally with Operations, IT, Automation, Safety, and Continuous Improvement teams to ensure the facility operates at peak performance.
Facilities Maintenance Leadership
- Supervise, guide, and assign projects to supervisors, project engineers, and engineering technicians relating to the engineering, development, maintenance, and special projects of all machinery and equipment.
- Develop and execute preventive and predictive maintenance programs to maximize equipment reliability and reduce downtime.
- Maintain equipment PM records and lead initiatives to improve equipment availability and operational performance.
- Oversee all facility-related repairs, maintenance activities, and general building upkeep.
- Manage vendor relationships and contracts, including negotiating service agreements to reduce overhead costs and improve service levels.
- Coordinate third-party service providers including housekeeping, recycling, waste management, and other facility support services.
- Ensure compliance with OSHA regulations, environmental requirements, and company safety standards.
- Assist in new building selection, facility fit-outs, expansions, and renovations to meet Arvato operational specifications.
- Develop facility maintenance budgets and monitor spending to ensure cost-effective operations.
- Support emergency response planning and facility contingency measures.
Logistics Engineering & Continuous Improvement
- Design, analyze, and optimize warehouse layouts, material flow processes, storage strategies, and operational workflows.
- Identify opportunities to improve productivity, capacity utilization, throughput, and overall distribution center performance.
- Lead process improvement initiatives utilizing Lean, Six Sigma, and continuous improvement methodologies.
- Conduct labor, workflow, and capacity studies to support operational planning and scaling.
- Analyze transportation, inventory, and warehouse performance metrics to recommend operational improvements.
- Partner with Operations leadership to implement engineered standards and improve resource utilization.
- Lead or support CAPEX projects involving automation, material handling systems, robotics, racking systems, and facility infrastructure.
- Develop business cases and ROI analyses for operational improvement initiatives and capital investments.
- Support start-up activities for new customers, operational expansions, and network optimization projects.
- Create and maintain process documentation, engineering drawings, workflow maps, SOPs, and facility layouts.
Automation & Technical Systems
- Troubleshoot and diagnose complex conveyor, robotics, and automation systems.
- Support and troubleshoot Warehouse Control Systems (WCS), Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs), and material handling equipment.
- Collaborate with IT and automation vendors to implement system enhancements and resolve technical issues.
- Lead projects focused on automation reliability, equipment upgrades, and technology implementation.
- Research and evaluate new technologies to increase efficiency, safety, and scalability.
Team Leadership
- Mentor and develop engineering, maintenance, and technical staff.
- Prioritize workloads and allocate resources to support operational requirements.
- Foster a culture of safety, accountability, continuous improvement, and operational excellence.
- Partner with site leadership to establish performance goals and ensure successful project execution.
Qualifications
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Logistics Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field; equivalent experience may be considered.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in a Facilities Manager, Engineering Manager, Logistics Engineer, or similar role.
- Previous experience leading and developing teams.
- Strong background in distribution, fulfillment, warehousing, or logistics operations.
- Experience with conveyor systems, automation equipment, robotics, WCS, and PLC troubleshooting.
- Knowledge of preventive maintenance programs and CMMS platforms.
- Experience managing contractors, vendors, and facility-related service providers.
- Proven success leading process improvement and capital project initiatives.
- Strong analytical, project management, and problem-solving skills.
- Lean Six Sigma certification or experience is preferred.
