Data Architect


We are looking to expand our Technology Architects team with a Data Architect. RTL is the market leader in the Dutch television market, but so much more than just TV! Through digital brands like RTLXL, Videoland, and, RTL has become one of the largest players in the Dutch Digital Market. As our new Data Architect, you will be part of the Architecture team within the Technology business unit reporting to the CTO.


Your Key Responsibilities


  • As part of the Architecture group, define together with Enterprise Architects the Vision, Strategy & Roadmap of the Data domain as well as of the end-to-end enterprise landscape.
  • Define the Data Domain-specific Standards for tooling, design principles and best practices; on the definition and design of the interaction between the technology elements (system/sub-systems/components) of the data architecture, their agility, reliability, and scalability, along with their interactions with other domains
  • Collaborate with other Domain Architects and Enterprise Architects for the integration of the Data architecture with other Domains
  • Define and own the Domain Blueprint and Guards the quality and the structure of the data model; Chair the process of the company-wide taxonomy


  • Support the Product Owner of the Data Platforms in order to define the Data Platforms roadmap
  • Collaborate with the Key Stakeholders in the business to support in the execution of the data strategy
  • Participate as subject matter expert in various Projects & Programs


  • Find and unlock data from new sources and support in the design of new interfaces
  • Technical ownership of Data Applications, including access and authorization levels, for example, the analytics tool and the DMP
  • Liaise with Legal and Compliance


Skills & Experiences

  • Minimum of 8 years in IT is required, of which 2 years in a comparable role is strongly preferred
  • Experience in the media industry is preferred
  • Experience working in large (1M+) transformation programs
  • Experience working on Agile development, SCRUM, or other relevant modern development and design practices
  • Experience in architecting data warehouses, data modeling, and big data platforms
  • Experience with Microservices, Service Orientated, and Event-Driven Architecture
  • Experience with API driven architectures; ETL and web interfaces
  • Experience in SQL programming language, and good knowledge about NoSQL DB and/or other Big Data Technologies, e.g. Spark
  • Knowledge of UML (domain model, activity- and state diagram, sequence diagrams)
  • Knowledge of BI tooling, for example, Business Objects or Tableau
  • Analytical with good inter-personal skills
  • Tenacious, self-starter, driven, shows initiative
  • Decisive and pragmatic problem solver
  • Assertive, well-developed communication skills. Able to engage with a both technical and non-technical staff at all levels in the organization, to understand and respond to their needs in rapidly changing environments
