The Westminster Operations Center located in Carroll County, Maryland (30 minutes from the greater Baltimore area) has a great opportunity for a driven, self-motivated individual to be part of our project team.  This unique position involves collaborating with people at all levels within the organization in support of our objective to strengthen the world’s largest general trade book publisher by having the best supply chain the publishing industry.   Some recent projects include developing distribution network models for $90M fulfillment operation, installing a tilt tray sortation system and constructing a 365k square foot building.  This position offers tremendous opportunity for growth while learning the ins and outs of the publishing industry’s leading supply chain.

 

Cultural fit is essential.  If you prefer routine and repetition, this is not the position for you.  No two days are ever the same.  A resourceful, detail-oriented individual with strong communication skills, proficient problem solving skills and effective organizational skills will be very successful in this role.

 

This specific position requires exceptional analytical and problem solving skills as well as the ability to lead cross functional projects of various sizes.  You will perform various analyses on existing processes, identifying process improvement opportunities, as well as developing new processes to support potential avenues for company growth.  Excellent PC skills to include Microsoft Office Suite are required, including experience creating and using complex formulas in Excel and/or Access.  Previous experience pulling large data sets, analyzing and summarizing the data to present key findings in a clear and concise manner is a plus.  

 

You will lead projects that focus on fulfillment operations; some of which will require working in the warehouse, performing time studies, developing flow charts, creating and testing system enhancements and training others.  Other projects range from compiling activity-based costing and labor models, calculating productivity metrics and developing ad hoc reports to installing conveyance systems, constructing mezzanines and implementing new material handling equipment.

 

Job requirements:

  • College degree plus 1 - 2 years of work experience, or equivalent work experience in supply chain, industrial engineering, or logistics
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Ability to prioritize and multi-task
  • Proficiency in MS Excel
  • Excellent PC Skills to include Microsoft Office Suite
  • Ability to lead various size cross functional projects
  • Ability to train others
  • Some travel required
  • Past experiences with systems (ERP, WMS, TMS, etc.) and databases
