The System Design Team at Penguin Random House is seeking a Directory Services Engineer.  The System Design (DevOps) Team at Penguin Random House is a diverse group of mid-to-high level engineers focused on facilitating a culture of collaboration between Application Development, System Administration, Database Administration, Analytics, Quality Assurance and Operations teams.  As a collective, the team manages the following components of the PRH DevOps Toolchain: Gitlab, Gitlab CI/CD, Rancher (Docker container orchestration), Web Servers (NGINX and Apache), Java Application Servers (Tomcat, JBoss EAP, Glassfish), Amazon Web Services (ECS, EC2, ELB, Lamda, etc.) and Web SSO / Identity Management (NetIQ / SAML 2.0).  Given the collaborative nature of this team, members are expected to be open-minded, forward thinking, and able to adapt to a variety of software development methodologies.  


Responsibilities include:

  • Design, implement, and maintain directory services infrastructure
  • Work closely with development teams to leverage Identity and Access Management systems for new applications
  • Provide ongoing support for directory services which includes: upgrades, tuning, monitoring, and problem troubleshooting and resolution
  • Support, maintain, and expand REST services for directory operations


Desired Qualifications

  • A bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent practical experience
  • Experience with a variety of directory services such as Active Directory, eDirectory, and Okta preferred
  • Strong understanding of Identity Federation/SSO utilizing SAML 2.0
  • Knowledgeable about secure proxy technology; F5 APM and NetIQ Access Manager experience a plus
  • Strong LDAP and directory administration skills
  • Strong Unix / Linux proficiency
  • Strong LAMP/LEMP stack skills
  • Familiarity with Java, PHP, and other languages
  • Experience with load balancers including HAProxy and F5 LTM
  • Experience with containers and container management a plus
  • Ability to write comprehensive technical documentation of design, system builds, configurations, system architecture diagrams, and support procedures
  • Comfortable working concurrent initiatives.
