Production Designer - Sasquatch Books

Sasquatch Books is seeking a Production Designer to join their team.


The Production Designer works closely with the Design and Production teams to produce top-quality books with high production values. The Production Designer will also lead in design and creation of marketing materials with oversight from the Brand and Design Manager. Knowledge of and interest in offset printing processes a plus.


Primary Responsibilities:

Production Design

  • Prepare pre-press files for design: adjust images, flow text, relink and package files, check file set-up, complete additional tasks as requested. Includes:
    • Receiving, scanning, organizing, and returning digital and analog art throughout production
    • Create draft layouts and/or flow text and art in 1st pass layout
    • Complete pre-press check  in 3rd pass file including checks for image conversion, image placement/compatibility, resolution and Photoshop as necessary
  • Generate barcodes and templates for all front- and backlist titles
  • Attend production meetings to track the status of each book and ensure that projects are on schedule


Marketing Design

  • Design marketing and publicity collateral, including: catalogs, postcards, posters, print and web ads, email blasts, and other promotional materials.
  • Work within and maintain brand guidelines
  • Work with Marketing team to ensure clear and efficient workflow for the development of materials between marketing and design departments
  • Manage vendors and purchasing of marketing materials




  • Associate of Art degree in Graphic Design or equivalent
  • At least one year experience in graphic arts or print production
  • Experience with InDesign, Photoshop, and Illustrator.  Good working knowledge of Acrobat and font application programs.
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Excellent self- and time-management skills, and organizational skills
  • Strong communication skills with all stakeholders in design work
  • High interest in contemporary typography and design trends as can be applied to book design
