VP, Finance - Central Publishing (Open to Remote)

Penguin Random House “PRH” is seeking a highly strategic and analytical finance pro to join our team as Vice President of Finance - Central Publishing. Reporting to our Chief Financial Officer, you’ll manage a small team while collaborating daily with our PRH US publishing groups as well as businesses acquired via M&A. You will provide strategic guidance and analysis to our publishers and senior management team and support the financial planning, reporting, and compliance functions of business across PRH. This position will be responsible for both day-to-day financial reporting as well as strategic projects: 

Day-to-day: 

  • Manages the financial planning and analysis processes, including budgeting, forecasting, variance analysis, and scenario modeling.  
  • Prepares and presents monthly financial performance and KPI reports to the senior management team. Reports results to Publishers and help guide decision-making. 
  • Analyzes the key drivers of revenue and expenses, such as sales volume, pricing, cost of goods sold, operating expenses, and capital expenditures.  
  • Identifies, monitors, and communicates trends, risks, and opportunities in our business and the industry that may impact the financial performance of the company.  
  • Collaborates with executive leadership to prioritize strategic initiatives and allocate resources. 
  • Leads the development of business cases and financial models to evaluate new opportunities or risks. 
  • Ensures compliance with all relevant company financial policies, accounting standards, and audit requirements. 
  • Improves reporting capabilities/visibility. 
  • Participates in and supports title acquisitions. 
  • Participates in and drives decisions regarding inventory, pricing, marketing, etc. 

 

Strategic Projects: 

  • Collaborates with leadership to develop and refine the company's long-term strategic plan in alignment with business objectives. 
  • Makes concrete recommendations to upper management to impact business focus and profitability. 
  • Identifies and evaluates potential partnerships, acquisitions, and investment opportunities. 
  • Provides cross-divisional analysis of different business models. 
  • Provides cross-divisional portfolio analysis based on categories. 
  • Provides cross-divisional overheads analysis and publishing efficiency. 

 

Requirements:    

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA or MBA preferred
  • At least 12 years of progressive experience in finance, accounting, or audit, preferably in the publishing, media, or entertainment industry  
  • An innovative, strategic thinker with excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills
  • Excellent organizational skills, with an ability to work under pressure to multi-task and prioritize to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong leadership, teamwork, and interpersonal skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel and other financial software and tools (Power BI, Anaplan and SAP a plus)  

 

Salary for this position is $190,000-$215,000.  All positions are currently eligible for annual profit award or bonus, subject to Company results.

The salary range listed is specific to each particular open position and takes into account various factors including the specifics of the individual role, and candidate's relevant experience and qualifications.
