Subsidiary Rights Assistant, Random House Children's Books (Open to Remote)

The Random House Children’s Books Subsidiary Rights department seeks a new domestic rights assistant to join our dynamic team.  Reporting to the Senior Director, the Subsidiary Rights Assistant will have the opportunity to work with our outstanding books for young readers, from board books to young adult, and everything in between, as we conduct business with domestic licensees.  

 

This is a chance to learn about licensing and gain insight into the publishing industry. This position requires constant communication with various internal departments like production, editorial, and contracts.  It is also a chance to interact with domestic licensing partners such as book clubs, reprint publishers, audio publishers and more.   

 

Our ideal candidate is enthusiastic about the business side of publishing, good at multi-tasking, and extraordinarily organized. We are looking for a detail-oriented, meticulous self-starter who loves books of all types and is invested in the process of bringing them to a wide readership, has strong writing and analytical skills, communicates clearly, is comfortable asking for help when needed, and wants to be an active participant on a collaborative team. If you can handle the details of immediately urgent tasks but also remember to stay on top of your own responsibilities and to-do list, you'll assume greater responsibilities over time. 

 

Specific responsibilities include:    

  • Provide administrative support including responding to customer inquiries, researching contracts, creating expiration reports, creating submissions to pitch our books, assisting with sales presentations, organizing materials, maintaining departmental systems, etc. 
  • Work closely with licensees to provide review and production materials 
  • Collaborate with various departments such as Production, Art, Editorial, Marketing, and Publishing Operations to gather information and materials to provide to licensees before and after rights deals are made 
  • Help or assist with other departmental needs as necessary

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills to interact with colleagues and customers 
  • Strong organizational skills and demonstrates the ability to multi-task and meet deadlines 
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite to develop presentations and maintain spreadsheets 
  • Ability to prioritize the workload and use time efficiently 
  • Prior experience using Adobe Acrobat a plus 

 

The PRH office is located in New York, New York. The position is open to remote candidates from the United States who can work during our core business hours of 9am – 5pm EST. 

 

The salary for this position is $51,000. All positions are currently eligible for annual profit award or bonus, subject to company results.
