Job Description
We are looking for a Developer with development experience in Java or Python, SQL, and javascript to join our team. An ideal candidate should be comfortable working across the stack (front-end, backend) and be familiar with DevOps. In this position, you will collaborate with small development teams that play a crucial role in driving business growth within PRH, operating within a dynamic and agile development environment. Specific responsibilities include:
- Contribute to the design, development, and maintenance of modern web applications as part of our ongoing platform evolution.
- Build, test, deploy, and iterate on both existing and new technology products that serve internal and external users.
- Leverage strong technical skills in areas such as front-end (web/mobile), backend development, cloud services (e.g., AWS), and DevOps practices to drive continuous improvement and automation.
- Support legacy systems and transition them to modern architectures.
- Communicate clearly and professionally with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Apply creative problem-solving and sound judgment in a fast-paced development environment.
Qualifications
- 5+ years of full time professional software development experience.
- Experience with backend development in Java or Python.
- Familiarity with SQL and database fundamentals.
- Strong grasp of modern web standards, accessibility, and security best practices.
- Willingness and ability to learn new technologies and frameworks.
- Ability to translate business requirements into technical solutions.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficient in front-end technologies such as React/JavaScript.
- Experience using GitHub Copilot or Claude Code to research/plan/implement features or fix bugs is a plus.
Additional Information
Penguin Random House’s national headquarters is located in New York City. This position is open to remote candidates based in the United States who are able to work Eastern Time hours.
The salary range for this role is $100,000–$115,000, commensurate with experience. All positions are currently eligible for an annual profit award or bonus, subject to Company results.
