Senior Financial Analyst, Random House


The Random House Finance department is seeking a Senior Financial Analyst to join our team. Overall responsibilities for this role include monthly reporting and analysis, forecasting, and performing ad-hoc financial analysis.

  1. Monthly Reporting
    1. Prepare monthly financial reporting packages and discuss findings with the rest of the division’s finance team and publishers
    2. Evaluate financial performance by comparing and analyzing actual results with plans
    3. Support the monthly financial close process through variance analysis against budget, forecast, and prior year and other close tasks as necessary
    4. Conduct marketing expense analysis
  2. Budgeting
    1. Assist in the development of the annual budget and rolling forecast for Random House Publishing Group imprints
    2. Develop, analyze and review marketing expense budgets
    3. Liaise with business partners to understand Budget drivers and inform forward looking projections
  3. Publishing Support
    1. Acquisition, Pricing, and Post-publication P&Ls
    2. Compile author histories
  4. Support the Finance Director & EVP of Business Strategy with ad-hoc analysis and reporting as needed



  • Advanced MS Excel skills are mandatory for this role: must be able to easily manipulate large volumes of data and use advanced formulas/pivot tables/v- and h-lookups, etc.
  • 3+ years of business experience in a finance/accounting role, or related analytical role
  • Degree in Business, Finance, Economics, or a related field
  • Ability to analyze financial data and prepare financial reports, statements, and projections as well as communicating results with management and directors
  • Understanding of basic financial principles
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to handle several tasks simultaneously, prioritize workload efficiently and meet deadlines
  • Demonstrated ability to interact and collaborate at all levels and across all organizational functions
  • Working knowledge of Business Objects and Power BI a plus
