Philomel Books is looking for a Editor/Senior Editor to join their team. The Senior Editor will discover, develop and edit 9-12 books a year with a focus on fantasy and action/adventure books for MG and YA readers.

 

Essential Functions Responsibilities:

  • Discovers, develops, and edits 9-12 book projects per year, with a focus on fantasy and action/adventure for a middle grade and YA audience and occasional picture book projects as well. Ability to edit sports fiction and non-fiction a plus.
  • Works with high-profile authors who have on-going series and franchises and acts as in-house point person for authors’ front-list and back-list titles.
  • Develops, nurtures, and maintains new and ongoing relationships with authors, artists, agents, and industry professionals.
  • Co-supervises an assistant editor.
  • Occasionally attends weekend conferences (including national librarian or teachers’ conventions), accompanies authors to various functions, and represents the imprint at industry events.

 

Qualifications/Requirements

  • At least 7-10 years of children’s book editing and acquisition experience
  • Proven commercial children’s book successes
  • Excellent writing and copywriting skills
  • Strong interpersonal and presentation skills
  • Works well as part of a larger team
  • Has established industry contacts
  • Ability to travel via airplane, train and/or automobile
  • PC fluency (Microsoft Word required; PowerPoint and Excel recommended)
