We have an exciting opportunity for a Sales Assistant to join the Special Markets department in Penguin Random House! Supporting the Vice President, Director of Premium Sales and a 4-person sales team, the Assistant will work with all titles across Penguin Random House to help establish new customers and maintain existing accounts. Working across a range of categories, this position is a fantastic way to learn all about the inner workings of a dynamic publishing sales department.

 

Specific responsibilities include:

  1. Providing essential sales support to sales team, including internal order routing and follow up, building and maintaining multiple grids, opening new accounts, maintaining communication with existing accounts, etc.
  2. Answering the department phone for general inquiries, which includes pricing, order placement, and tracking support to customers.
  3. Working closely with various in-house departments to oversee print and digital marketing initiatives and delivering finished marketing products to all accounts. 
  4. Attending regular in-house sales presentations and occasional customer specific sales meetings.
  5. Maintaining and routing departmental, channel, and general meeting recap notes.
  6. Gathering and distributing presentation materials, including seasonal sales target grids.
  7. Building contact lists within the proprietary database system.
  8. Writing pitch letters to both new and established customers.
  9. Supporting the Sales Managers on the department’s largest accounts.

  • Proven ability to prioritize multiple assignments and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong attention to detail and follow-up skills
  • Ability to work well independently and within a team
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook; ability to learn new systems
  • Prior office experience a plus
  • SAP, HTML, and Salesforce experience a plus
