Join the Special Markets Sales team at Penguin Random House as a Sales Assistant. This department is responsible for selling titles across all Penguin Random House imprints to the specialty marketplace. In this role, you will act as central support to the Specialty Field Sales Representatives, perform all administrative duties for the department, and report to the Director of Sales.


Specific responsibilities include:

  1. Coordinating and creating sell sheets for the Field Sales channel.
  2. Responding to inquiries from Field Sales Representatives and specialty accounts.
  3. Managing and resolving issues that arise during the sales process.
  4. Coordinating sales kits, sample mailings, and catalog mailings to the Field Sales Representatives.
  5. Creating and maintaining sales spreadsheets, updating mailing lists, maintaining customer database systems and managing leads in sales database.
  6. Preparing for sales presentations by reserving conference rooms, duplicating sales materials, creating PowerPoint decks, managing presentation scheduling, and pitching titles in person and through WebEx.
  7. Assisting with the preparation for trade shows and attending trade shows when appropriate.
  8. Providing general administrative support to the department.

  • Genuine interest in sales and book publishing
  • Excellent organizational skills and strong attention to detail
  • Ability to successfully prioritize and work on multiple projects at a time
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Proven ability to work independently as well as part of a team
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills, including a comfort with working with numbers
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Ability to travel 1-2 times per year as needed via plane, train, or car
  • Knowledge of SalesForce and WebEx a plus
