
Penguin Random House is seeking a Sales Assistant to support the Special Markets Retail Sales team. This department sells both in-house and client titles to Specialty Retail and Wholesale accounts. The Sales Assistant will play a key role in streamlining sales outreach across the channel by providing ongoing sales support, customer communication, and administrative coordination.
The ideal candidate has an adaptable communication and follow-up style and is able to follow processes and work self-sufficiently. This is an exciting opportunity for a detail-oriented self-starter who loves to streamline and improve processes, enjoys creative problem-solving, and has a desire and willingness to seek increased responsibility and grow within a busy department.
Specific responsibilities include:
- Partnering closely with Account Managers to support key accounts
- Supporting the needs of Field Gift Representatives
- Creating seasonal PowerPoint presentations and targeted sales pitches
- Completing item setups for customers
- Processing customer orders and ensuring timely follow-up
- Following up on sales leads and customer inquiries
- Managing sample and asset requests from customers and Gift Representatives
- Capturing and maintaining sales activity notes in Salesforce
- Coordinating materials for seasonal sell-in efforts, gift and other specialty shows, etc.
- Researching niche categories and new accounts to support business development efforts
- Communicating with sales management regarding account activity and preparing weekly sales reports
- ttending local trade shows; occasional weekend work may be required

The salary for this position is $51,000. All positions are currently eligible for annual profit award or bonus, subject to Company results.
Penguin Random House is headquartered in New York City. This flexible hybrid role is based at our offices at 1745 Broadway and typically requires 1–2 in-office days per week. Additional on-site attendance may occasionally be needed to support programming, events, or other business needs. Candidates should reside within a reasonable commuting distance of New York City or be prepared to relocate prior to their start date.
