Random House Children's Books - Editorial Assistant

The Random House Children’s Books division is seeking an Editorial Assistant to join their picture book team. This position will assist two Editorial Directors with daily administrative and editorial responsibilities. Provides administrative support and acts as a liaison between authors, agents and different departments within the company. Keen interest in children’s books is a must. An interest in picture books and illustrated books preferred, as is previous experience in the publishing or education fields, either via internships or other work experience.

 

Specifically, the Editorial Assistant:

 

  • Performs administrative and clerical tasks such as organizing meetings, maintaining files, mailing packages, and ordering books for office and authors
  • Traffics books through all stages of production
  • Maintains schedules and tracks projects
  • Drafts cover/flap and online copy, front matter, and title Information sheets
  • Prepares P&Ls, contract proposals, check requests, and expense reports
  • Reads and evaluates manuscripts, writes reader reports, and offers creative input
  • Inter-faces with Library of Congress in the obtaining of CIP data and LC numbers
  • Submits copyright notices
  • Research for special projects including: photo research, market research, pop culture research, competive research, internal and external sales historiesetc.

•             Knowledge and interest in children’s media
