Are you passionate about books and interested in the behind-the-scenes business that makes them happen? Berkley, an imprint of Penguin Random House, is looking for a Publishing Assistant in the Editorial Department to report to the Editor-in-Chief of Berkley and the President of the Putnam Dutton Berkley Group.


This position is in support of editorial operations and offers excellent insight into the processes of our department, as well as a big-picture overview of how the publishing industry works. We’re looking for someone who enjoys organizing workflow, managing efficient communication channels and keeping track of the many detailed tasks involved in creating and publishing an imprint list.



  • Process all editorial contract creation forms, copyright forms, author copy orders and supply orders, etc.
  • Create backlist selling materials, as well as organize and route all front list selling materials in preparation for sales meetings
  • Maintain departmental tracking files for submissions, acquisitions, attendance, etc.
  • Circulate informational emails from sales, marketing and publicity to editorial
  • Act as point person in editorial for assisting in work with corporate systems including Authenticity Read database, Box, InMotion, BPI, OneDrive, Adobe, etc.
  • Schedule departmental meetings as well as all author/agent meetings with editorial, marketing and publicity.
  • Coordinate all book award and contest submissions
  • Take and distribute editorial meeting minutes
  • Assist in creating departmental newsletter
  • Maintain President’s schedule and arrange meetings and any travel, as well as handle expense reports, limited mailings and create sales reports for President and Editor-in-Chief



  • Strong computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook. An interest and eagerness in learning new systems and software
  • Passion for organizing efficient workflow
  • Ability to communicate and coordinate across teams
  • Interest in helping to make operations and processes run efficiently
  • Self-starter with impeccable attention to detail
  • Works well under pressure and can handle multiple responsibilities in a deadline driven environment
  • Able to prioritize, multi-task, and demonstrate excellent time management skills
  • Strong sense of integrity with ability to handle confidential and sensitive information with discretion
