The Dutton imprint at Penguin Random House is seeking a Publicist or a Senior Publicist to manage and execute all aspects of publicity campaigns for assigned hardcover fiction and non-fiction titles. Dutton specializes in highly successful fiction franchise authors and bestselling nonfiction authors, including Harlan Coben, Linda Fairstein, Mark Owen, Sean Carroll, Daniel J. Levitin, and Nick Offerman. Dutton is committed to publishing the best in both fiction and nonfiction, and publishes a focused, vibrant list of engaging, must-read books.


Specific responsibilities include:

  1. Planning and executing publicity campaigns that will maximize exposure for authors and their books.
  2. Pitching national and local reviewers and producers, booking media tours, and scheduling author events.
  3. Developing and maintaining solid relationships with authors and the media.
  4. Writing pitch letters and press releases.
  5. Compiling media news clips and press coverage for books.
  6. Attending and presenting at weekly sales, marketing, and publicity meetings.
  7. Assisting the Director of Publicity with major publicity campaigns.

  • At least 3-4 years of experience in public relations, book publishing experience preferred
  • Exceptional writing and pitching skills
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Proven ability to meet deadlines, multitask, and prioritize
  • Ability to manage and follow-through on multiple projects and work independently
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Ability to travel up to 5% of the year by train and/or car required
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Excel
  • Understanding of social media as a marketing tool
